Objective: To determine adjunct pharmacist preceptor perceptions of their precepting role related to three domains: motivation to precept, understanding the precepting role, and support for precepting.

Methods: An online cross-sectional survey of 2429 adjunct preceptors for four schools of pharmacy was conducted. Participants ranked their agreement with 81 statements regarding the three domains, including eleven subdomains.

Results: Mean scores for the three domains were slightly below the positive response level, with lower scores found for the subdomains of workload, precepting norms, and extrinsic benefits/rewards. Individual statements indicated increased workload due to precepting, need for more preceptor recognition and appreciation, perceptions that precepting was stressful or draining, and a preference for one concurrent learner. More frequent need for extra coaching for APPE students negatively impacted all domains, including nine subdomains.

Conclusion: This study provides a formal evaluation of adjunct preceptor perceptions of their precepting role. Compared to previous studies, these results may indicate lower satisfaction with precepting, suggesting opportunities exist to improve the adjunct precepting experience. Actions by schools/colleges of pharmacy are necessary to ensure experiential education capacity including addressing workload concerns, increasing preceptor recognition and appreciation, and supporting preceptors when students need extra coaching.

While the cerebellum's role in orchestrating motor execution and routines is well established, its functional role in supporting cognition is less clear. Previous studies claim that motricity and cognition are mapped in different areas of the cerebellar cortex, with an anterior/posterior dichotomy. However, most of the studies supporting this claim either use correlational methods (neuroimaging) or are lesion studies that did not consider central covariates (such as age, gender, treatment presence, and deep nuclei impairment) known to influence motor and cognitive recoveries in patients.

An advanced preceptor training course was developed to address gaps in precepting skills identified through a thorough gap analysis. The course reinforces foundational concepts while integrating new strategies like role-playing, peer discussions, and hands-on activities. It aims to enhance critical thinking, conflict management, and feedback skills.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the diversity and ecological roles of Woesearchaeota in Lake Dziani Dzaha, revealing their unique genomic features and lifestyles.
  • Researchers identified two distinct populations of Woesearchaeota with a bimodal distribution in depth, linked to different chemical environments, indicating their complex interactions within the microbial community.
  • The findings challenge existing beliefs about the metabolic dependencies of Woesearchaeota, suggesting they exhibit adaptive lifestyles that contribute significantly to ecosystem dynamics.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the connection between feelings of emptiness and self-harm in individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD), focusing on how inner strengths like the Five Precepts, meditation, and equanimity act as buffers against self-harm.
  • A total of 302 Thai participants with BPD symptoms participated, completing various assessments to measure their feelings of emptiness, self-harm tendencies, and levels of inner strengths.
  • Results indicated that the Five Precepts, meditation, and equanimity significantly mediated the relationship between feelings of emptiness and self-harm, suggesting these inner strengths can help reduce self-harm behaviors in those experiencing BPD.

As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly integrated into various professional fields, understanding its impact on pharmacy education is crucial. This study explores pharmacists' perceptions of AI's role in enhancing educational and professional practices, particularly focusing on the generation of educational content and analytical tasks. The primary objective was to assess pharmacists' concerns and perceived benefits regarding the use of AI in pharmacy education, examining variations across different age groups and years of practice.
