We report a stable, low loss method for coupling light from silicon-on-insulator (SOI) photonic chips into optical fibers. The technique is realized using an on-chip tapered waveguide and a cleaved small core optical fiber. The on-chip taper is monolithic and does not require a patterned cladding, thus simplifying the chip fabrication process. The optical fiber segment is composed of a centimeter-long small core fiber (UHNA7) which is spliced to SMF-28 fiber with less than -0.1 dB loss. We observe an overall coupling loss of -0.64 dB with this design. The chip edge and fiber tip can be butt coupled without damaging the on-chip taper or fiber. Friction between the surfaces maintains alignment leading to an observation of ±0.1 dB coupling fluctuation during a ten-day continuous measurement without use of any adhesive. This technique minimizes the potential for generating Raman noise in the fiber, and has good stability compared to coupling strategies based on longer UHNA fibers or fragile lensed fibers. We also applied the edge coupler on a correlated photon pair source and observed a raw coincidence count rate of 1.21 million cps and raw heralding efficiency of 21.3%. We achieved an auto correlation function (2)(0) as low as 0.0004 at the low pump power regime.

Brain tumours are one of the most deadly and noticeable types of cancer, affecting both children and adults. One of the major drawbacks in brain tumour identification is the late diagnosis and high cost of brain tumour-detecting devices. Most existing approaches use ML algorithms to address problems, but they have drawbacks such as low accuracy, high loss, and high computing cost.

Loss of anticancer NK cell function in AML patients is associated with fatal disease progression and remains poorly understood. Here, we demonstrate that AML-blasts isolated from patients rapidly inhibit NK cell function and escape NK cell-mediated killing. Transcriptome analysis of NK cells exposed to AML-blasts revealed increased CREM expression and transcriptional activity, indicating enhanced cAMP signalling, confirmed by uniform production of the cAMP-inducing prostanoid PGE2 by all AML-blast isolates from patients.

Spectral dispersion in low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) can significantly affect NMR spectral analysis, particularly when studying complex mixtures like metabolic profiling of biological samples. To address signal superposition in these spectra, we employed spectral editing with selective excitation pulses, proving it to be a suitable approach. Optimal control pulses were implemented in low-field NMR and demonstrated their capability to selectively excite and eliminate specific amino acids, such as phenylalanine and taurine, either individually or simultaneously.

The conductivity of AgNWs electrodes can be enhanced by incorporating Ag grids, thereby facilitating the development of large-area flexible organic solar cells (FOSCs). Ag grids from vacuum evaporation offer the advantages of simple film formation, adjustable thickness, and unique structure. However, the complex 3D multi-component structure of AgNWs electrodes will exacerbate the aggregation of large Ag particles, causing the device short circuits.

Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the clinical effect of low-energy semiconductor laser treatment on the promotion of wound healing after maxillofacial fracture surgery.

Methods: A prospective randomized controlled study was conducted. Patients with maxillofacial fractures who were hospitalized in the Department of Trauma and Plastic Surgery, West China Hospital of Stomatology, Sichuan University, from August 2021 to June 2023 were selected as the study subjects and randomly divided into experimental and control groups.
