Membrane fusion is central to fundamental cellular processes such as exocytosis, when an intracellular machinery fuses membrane-enclosed vesicles to the plasma membrane for contents release. The core machinery components are the SNARE proteins. SNARE complexation pulls the membranes together, but the fusion mechanism remains unclear.

Background: Jet fuels are a common chemical exposure in occupational settings involving aircraft. Jet fuels are heterogeneous mixtures of aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons, as well as non-hydrocarbon performance additives. Several components of jet fuels have been linked to adverse health outcomes.

The range of sensor technologies for structural health monitoring (SHM) systems is expanding as the need for ongoing structural monitoring increases. In such a case, damage to the monitored structure elements is detected using an integrated network of sensors operating in real-time or periodically in frequent time stamps. This paper briefly introduces a new type of sensor, called a Customized Crack Propagation Sensor (CCPS), which is an alternative for crack gauges, but with enhanced functional features and customizability.

Paper-based cultural relics experience aging and deterioration during their long-term preservation, which poses a serious threat to their lifetime. The development of conservation materials with high compatibility and low intervention has been expected to extend the lifetime of paper artifacts. As a new type of biological macromolecule, nanocellulose has been extensively utilized in paper conservation, attributed to its excellent paper compatibility, high optical transparency, outstanding mechanical strength, and large specific surface area with abundant hydroxyl groups.

The behavior of low-carbon steels (LCSs), a high-strength steel and a nickel-chromium alloy in HCl solutions in the presence of N-containing organic substances has been studied. N-containing organic substances that comprise 1,2,4-triazole in their structure (substance I and substance II) provide comprehensive protection of various steel grades from corrosion and hydrogen absorption by the metal bulk in HCl solutions under both isobaric and isochoric conditions. All the compounds studied reduce, to varying degrees, the concentration of hydrogen adsorbed and absorbed by steel in HCl solutions.
