A newly discovered trihydroxynaphthalenone derivative, epoxynaphthalenone () involving the condensation of ortho-hydroxyl groups into an epoxy structure, and a novel pyrone metabolite characterized as pyroneaceacid (), were extracted from , an endophytic fungus residing in . The structures of these compounds were elucidated through a comprehensive analysis of their NMR and HRESIMS data. The determination of absolute configurations was accomplished using electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations and CD spectra. Notably, these recently identified metabolites exhibited a moderate inhibitory activity against xanthine oxidase (XOD).

Eight previously undescribed solanapyrone analogues, sphasolanapyrones A-H (1-8), together with four structurally related known compounds (9-12) were obtained from the solid fermentation of Nigrospora sphaerica MZW-A, an endophytic fungus isolated from the fresh branches of the endangered conifer Pinus wangii. This study represents the first investigation on the secondary metabolites of endophytic fungus associated with this precious plant. The structures and absolute configurations of compounds 1-8 were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analysis and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations.

A systematic investigation of the secondary metabolites of MNY-14, which was isolated from the ripe leaves of , led to the isolation of eighteen compounds, including twelve indole diketopiperazine alkaloids (-), an -pyrone meroterpenoid (), a nortriterpenoid (), two benzophenones (), and two quinoline alkaloids (). Among them, compounds , and were isolated for the first time from . The chemotaxonomic significance of the secondary metabolites was discussed.

Fungal phytotoxins cause significant harm to agricultural production or lead to plant diseases. Discovering new phytotoxins, dissecting their formation mechanism and understanding their action mode are important for controlling the harmful effects of fungal phytopathogens. In this study, a long-term unsolved cluster (polyketide synthase 16, PKS16 cluster) from species was thoroughly investigated and a series of new metabolites including both complex α-pyrone-polyketide glycosides and simple polyketide carboxylates were identified from .
