Ligand-protected heterometallic nanoclusters in contrast to homo-metal counterparts show more broad applications due to the synergistic effect of hetero-metals but their controllable syntheses remain a challenge. Among heterometallic nanoclusters, monovalent Ag-Cu compounds are rarely explored due to much difference of Ag(I) and Cu(I) such as atom radius, coordination habits, and redox potential. Encouraged by copper-catalyzed alkyne-azide cycloaddition (CuAAC) reaction, comproportionation reaction of Cu(II)X and Cu(0) in the presence of (PhC≡CAg) complex and molybdate generated a core-shell peanut-shaped 66-nuclear Ag(I)-Cu(I) heterometallic nanocluster, [(MoO)@CuAg(PhC≡C)] (referred to as AgCu). The structure and composition of Ag-Cu heterometallic nanocluster are fully characterized. X-ray single crystal diffraction reveals that AgCu has a peanut-shaped silver(I)/copper(I) heterometallic nanocage protected by fifty phenylacetylene ligands in µ-modes and encapsulated two mutually twisted tetramolybdates. Heterometallic nanocage contains a 54-Ag-atom outer ellipsoid silver cage decorated by 12 copper inside wall. Nanosized AgCu is a n-type narrow-band-gap semiconductor with a good photocurrent response. Preliminary experiments demonstrates that AgCu itself and activated carbon supported AgCu/C are effective catalysts for 1,3-dipole cycloaddition between alkynes and azides at ambient conditions. The work provides not only a new synthetic route toward Ag(I)-Cu(I) nanoclusters but also an important heterometallic intermediate in CuAAC catalytic reaction.

Through modulating the multidentate ligands, solvent environments, and inorganic tin precursors during the synthesis processes, we have successfully prepared a series of unprecedented heterometallic Sn-Ti oxo clusters with structural diversity and different physiochemical attributes. Initially, two Sn6Ti10 clusters were synthesized using trimethylolpropane as a structure-oriented ligand and SnCl·5HO as a tin source. Then, when a larger pentadentate ligand di(trimethylolpropane) was used instead of trimethylolpropane and aprotic acetonitrile solvent was introduced into the reaction system, four low-nuclearity Sn-Ti oxo clusters were discovered, including two Sn1Ti1, one Sn2Ti2 and one Sn2Ti6.

While -heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) have recently been shown to be effective ligands for gold nanoclusters, very few examples of heterometallic clusters incorporating nongroup 11 metals are known. We present herein an Au-Pt NHC cluster featuring a crown-shaped [AuPt(NHC)] core, produced in high yield without the need for chromatographic purification. The method was largely independent of the substitution pattern of the NHC backbone; however, bulky wingtip groups were needed for clean conversion to the AuPt cluster.

Identification of a natural-based sensitizer with optimal stability and efficiency for dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) application remains a challenging task. Previously, we proposed a new class of sensitizers based on bio-nano hybrids. These systems composed of natural cyanidin dyes interacting with silver nanoclusters (NCs) have demonstrated enhanced opto-electronic and photovoltaic properties.
