Background: Radiation necrosis (RN) after stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) in brain metastases has been extensively evaluated, and RN is correlated with various risk factors. However, no study comprehensively analyzed the correlation between RN and the border zones of the brain that are vulnerable to ischemia. We hypothesized that patients with tumors in the border zone are at high risk of RN. Hence, the current study aimed to assess the correlation between border zone lesions and RN, with consideration of other predetermined factors.
Methods: This retrospective study included 117 patients with 290 lesions who underwent Gamma Knife SRS. Radiological and clinical analyses were performed to identify factors possibly correlated with RN. Notably, the lesion location was classified into 2 groups (border zone and nonborder zone) based on the blood supply.
Results: In total, 22 (18.8%) patients with 22 (7.5%) lesions developed RN. Univariate analysis revealed a significant correlation between RN and external border zone lesions, second course of SRS administered at the same site of the previous SRS, prescribed dose, and tumor volume. Multivariate analysis showed that border zone lesions, second course of SRS at the same site of the previous SRS, and tumor volume were significantly correlated with RN.
Conclusions: Patients with tumors in the border zone are at high risk of RN. The potential risks of RN can be attributed hypothetically to hypoperfusion. Hence, the association between RN and border zone lesions seems reasonable.

Background: Left ventricular (LV) myocardial contraction patterns can be assessed using LV mechanical dispersion (LVMD), a parameter closely associated with electrical activation patterns. Despite its potential clinical significance, limited research has been conducted on LVMD following myocardial infarction (MI). This study aims to evaluate the predictive value of cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR)-derived LVMD for adverse clinical outcomes and to explore its correlation with myocardial scar heterogeneity.

Treatment of neuropathic pain in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI) and cauda equina injury (CEI) remains challenging. Dorsal root entry zone lesioning (DREZL) or DREZotomy is a viable surgical option for refractory cases. This study aimed to compare DREZL surgical outcomes between patients with SCI and those with CEI and to identify predictors of postoperative pain relief.

In contrast to adult mammalian hearts, the adult zebrafish heart efficiently replaces cardiomyocytes lost after injury. Here we reveal shared and species-specific injury response pathways and a correlation between Hmga1, an architectural non-histone protein, and regenerative capacity, as Hmga1 is required and sufficient to induce cardiomyocyte proliferation and required for heart regeneration. In addition, Hmga1 was shown to reactivate developmentally silenced genes, likely through modulation of H3K27me3 levels, poising them for a pro-regenerative gene program.

Chest ports are typically inserted via the right internal jugular vein with the left side being utilized in certain patient populations. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the dynamic position of the chest port and catheter tip, comparing a demographically matched cohort of female breast cancer patients with right- or left-sided chest ports. 142 female patients with breast cancer requiring chest port insertion for chemotherapy and imaging confirming catheter tip position initially with supine fluoroscopy and follow-up with erect chest radiography over a 5-year period were identified.

Identifying factors that contribute to the transition to the dilated phase in cardiac ischemia is a critical challenge in heart failure treatment. Currently, no effective therapies exist for this ischemic complication, and the mechanisms driving left ventricular dilatation during chronic post-infarction remodeling remain poorly understood. One potential pathological process leading to ventricular dilatation involves specific compensatory rearrangements in the border zone adjacent to the infarct, which isolates the intact myocardium from inflammation at the scar edge.
