A fiber probe has been developed that enables simultaneous acquisition of mid-infrared (MIR) and Raman spectra in the region of 3100-2600 cm. Multimodal measurement is based on a proposed ZrO crystal design at the tip of an attenuated total reflection (ATR) probe. Mid-infrared ATR spectra are obtained through a pair of chalcogenide infrared (CIR) fibers mounted at the base of the crystal. The probe enables both excitation and acquisition of a weak Raman signal from a portion of the sample in front of the crystal using an additional pair of silica fibers located in a plane perpendicular to the CIR fibers. The advantages of combining MIR and Raman spectra in a single probe have been discussed.

Levels of tissue oxygenation and collagen regeneration are critical indicators in the early evaluation of wound healing. Traditionally, these factors have been assessed using separate instruments and different methodologies. Here, we adopt the spatially averaged phosphorescence lifetime approach using Re-diimine complexes (Re-probe) to enable simultaneous quantification of these two critical factors in healing wounds.

Peptide-based hydrogels form a kind of promising material broadly used in biomedicine and biotechnology. However, the correlation between their hydrogen bonding dynamics and mechanical properties remains uncertain. In this study, we found that the adoption of β-sheet and α-helix secondary structures by ECF-5 and GFF-5 peptides, respectively, could further form fiber networks to immobilize water molecules into hydrogels.

Smartphones equipped with highly integrated sensors are increasingly being recognized as powerful tools for rapid on-site testing. Here, we propose a low-cost, portable, and highly multiplexed smartphone-based spectrometer capable of collecting three types of spectra-transmission, reflection, and fluorescence-by simply replacing the optical fiber attached to the housing. Spectral analysis is performed directly on the smartphone using a custom-developed app.

The physical organization and properties of chromatin within the interphase nucleus are intimately linked to a wide range of functional DNA-based processes. In this context, interphase chromatin mechanics - that is, how chromatin, physically, responds to forces - is gaining increasing attention. Recent methodological advances for probing the force-response of chromatin in cellulo open new avenues for research, as well as new questions.

Purpose: Analysis of autofluorescence holds promise for brain tumor delineation and diagnosis. Therefore, we investigated the potential of a commercial confocal laser scanning endomicroscopy (CLE) system for clinical imaging of brain tumors.
Methods: A clinical CLE system with fiber probe and 488 nm laser excitation was used to acquire images of tissue autofluorescence.
