In this paper, we propose and analyze a nonautonomous model that describes the dynamics of a size-structured consumer interacting with an unstructured resource. We prove the existence and uniqueness of the solution of the model using the monotone method based on a comparison principle. We derive conditions on the model parameters that result in persistence and extinction of the population via the upper-lower solution technique. We verify and complement the theoretical results through numerical simulations.

As time progresses, the transmission pattern of a disease may change. To more precisely determine the spread behaviors of the disease, we develop non-autonomous topological and random spread models. In this article, we validate the survival characteristics of these spread models and elucidate their connection with mixing properties using the associated ξ-matrices or spread mean matrices.

Hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) is a severe congenital heart disease associated with microcephaly and poor neurodevelopmental outcomes. Here we show that the Ohia HLHS mouse model, with mutations in Sap130, a chromatin modifier, and Pcdha9, a cell adhesion protein, also exhibits microcephaly associated with mitotic block and increased apoptosis leading to impaired cortical neurogenesis. Transcriptome profiling, DNA methylation, and Sap130 ChIPseq analyses all demonstrate dysregulation of genes associated with autism and cognitive impairment.

Maternal control cedes to the zygote starting with the onset of widespread zygotic genome activation (ZGA), which is essential for subsequent cell fate determination and morphogenesis. Intriguingly, although the onset of ZGA is highly regulated at the level of an embryo, it can be non-homogenous and precisely patterned at the single-cell level.

Female reproduction comes at great expense to energy metabolism compensated by extensive organ adaptations including intestinal size. Upon mating, endocrine signals orchestrate a 30% net increase of absorptive epithelium. Mating increases production of the steroid hormone Ecdysone released by the Drosophila ovaries that stimulates intestinal stem cell (ISC) divisions.

Significant changes in a system's dynamics can be understood through modifications in the topological structure of its flow in phase space. In the Earth's climate system, such changes are often referred to as tipping points. One of the large-scale components that may pass a tipping point is the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation.
