(1) Background: High dose gradients and manual steps in brachytherapy treatment procedures can lead to dose errors which make the use of in vivo dosimetry (IVD) highly recommended for verifying brachytherapy treatments. A new procedure was presented to obtain a calibration factor which allows fast and robust calibration of plastic scintillation detector (PSD) probes for the geometry of a compact phantom using Monte Carlo simulations. Additionally, characterization of PSD energy, angular, and temperature dependences was performed. (2) Methods: PENELOPE/PenEasy code was used to obtain the calibration factor. To characterize the energy dependence of the PSD, the signal was measured at different radial and transversal distances. The sensitivity to the angular position was characterized in axial and azimuthal planes. (3) Results: The calibration factor obtained allows for an absorbed dose to water determination in full scatter conditions from ionization measured in a mini polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) phantom. The energy dependence of the PSD along the radial distances obtained was (2.3 ± 2.1)% ( = 1). The azimuthal angular dependence measured was (2.6 ± 3.4)% ( = 1). The PSD response decreased by (0.19 ± 0.02)%/°C with increasing detector probe temperature. (4) Conclusions: The energy, angular, and temperature dependence of a PSD is compatible with IVD.

The background for establishing and verifying a dehydration prediction model for elderly patients with post-stroke dysphagia (PSD) based on General Utility for Latent Process (GULP) is as follows: For elderly patients with PSD, GULP technology is utilized to build a dehydration prediction model. This aims to improve the accuracy of dehydration risk assessment and provide clinical intervention, thereby offering a scientific basis and enhancing patient prognosis. This research highlights the innovative application of GULP technology in constructing complex medical prediction models and addresses the special health needs of elderly stroke patients.

For change detection in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery, amplitude change detection (ACD) and coherent change detection (CCD) are widely employed. However, time-series SAR data often contain noise and variability introduced by system and environmental factors, requiring mitigation. Additionally, the stability of SAR signals is preserved when calibration accounts for temporal and environmental variations.

InViLab, Department of Electromechanical Engineering, University of Antwerp, Groenenborgerlaan 171, 2020 Antwerp, Belgium.

Laser-based systems, essential in diverse applications, demand accurate geometric calibration to ensure precise performance. The calibration process of the system requires establishing a reliable relationship between input parameters and the corresponding 3D description of the outgoing laser beams. The quality of the calibration depends on the quality of the dataset of measured laser lines.

Evaluation of Concrete Structural Cracking Behavior Induced by Early Drying Shrinkage.

Materials (Basel)

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Hydraulic Engineering Intelligent Construction and Operation, Tianjin University, Tianjin 300350, China.

In this paper, the early drying shrinkage coefficients of different hydraulic cement mortars are calibrated through laboratory experiments for moderate-heat Portland cement (MHPC) and low-heat Portland cement (LHPC). By developing an improved mesoscale modeling approach, a 3D highly detailed simulation of concrete was generated, which incorporates the phases of mortar, aggregates, and interfacial transition zone (ITZ). The simulation result is in good agreement with the concrete early drying shrinkage experiment, exhibiting an error of less than 4.
