The association between serum tumor necrosis factor receptor (TNFRs: TNFR1, TNFR2) levels and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) observed in patients with diabetes has not been comprehensively tested in healthy subjects with normal kidney function. It also remains unclear whether TNFR levels differ by age and sex, and between healthy subjects and diabetics. We measured serum TNFR levels in 413 healthy subjects and 292 patients with type 2 diabetes. In healthy subjects, TNFR levels did not differ between men and women. Additionally, TNFR2, but not TNFR1, levels increased with age. In multivariate analysis, TNFR1 was associated only with cystatin C-based eGFR (eGFR-CysC), whereas TNFR2 was associated with systolic blood pressure in addition to eGFR-CysC. Both TNFRs were associated with lower eGFR (eGFR-Cys < 90 mL/min/1.73 m) even after adjustment for relevant clinical factors. Upon combining healthy subjects and patients with diabetes, the presence of diabetes and elevated glycated hemoglobin level were significant factors in determining TNFR levels. TNFR levels were associated with eGFR-CysC, but were not affected by age and sex in healthy subjects with normal kidney function. TNFR levels in patients with diabetes appeared to be higher than in healthy subjects.

Dual-polarity readout is a simple and robust way to mitigate Nyquist ghosting in diffusion-weighted echo-planar imaging but imposes doubled scan time. We here propose how dual-polarity readout can be implemented with little or no increase in scan time by exploiting an observed b-value dependence and signal averaging. The b-value dependence was confirmed in healthy volunteers with distinct ghosting at low b-values but of negligible magnitude at b = 1000 s/mm2.

Modern treatment, a healthy diet, and physical activity routines lower the risk factors for metabolic syndrome; however, this condition is associated with all-cause and cardiovascular mortality worldwide. This investigation involved a randomized controlled trial, double-blind, parallel study. Fifty-eight participants with risk factors of metabolic syndrome according to the inclusion criteria were randomized into two groups and given probiotics (Lacticaseibacillus paracasei MSMC39-1 and Bifidobacterium animalis TA-1) (n = 31) or a placebo (n = 27).

Residents' willingness and awareness to participate in internet+nursing service in China: A meta-analysis.

Medicine (Baltimore)

January 2025

Department of Geriatric Cardiology Nursing, Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China.

Background: The internet + nursing service is an important initiative for implementing the strategy of healthy China and actively responding to the aging of the population. However, the current literature on residents' awareness and willingness to participate is insufficient and presents large variations and limitations. Therefore, this study aims to systematically evaluate the awareness and willingness of Chinese residents to participate in internet + nursing service to comprehensively understand the level of awareness and acceptance of this emerging service model among Chinese residents and to provide strong support for relevant policy formulation and service optimization.

Anemia is a worldwide public health problem and is associated with platelet disorders. The relationship between anemia and platelets is complex, with the association being either normal platelet count or thrombocytosis. Platelets are significantly decreased in patients with anemia, and thrombocytopenia has been documented in patients with severe anemia.

Background: Central arterial stiffening is associated with brain white matter (WM) damage and gray matter (GM) volume loss in older adults, but little is known about this association from an adult lifespan perspective.

Purpose: To investigate the associations of central arterial stiffness with WM microstructural organization, WM lesion load, cortical thickness, and GM volume in healthy adults across the lifespan.

Study Type: This is a cross-sectional study.
