Diagnostic Value of Serum miR-499a-5p in Chinese Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

J Mol Neurosci

January 2025

Department II of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Dongzhimen Hospital Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, No. 116, Cuiping West Road, Tongzhou District, Beijing, 101121, China.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the expression of miR-499a-5p in children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and its value in early diagnosis of ASD. This is a retrospective case-control study that included 40 children with ASD as a case group and 43 healthy children as a control group. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed on all subjects, and the children were scored with childhood autism rating scale (CARS) and autism behavior checklist (ABC).

Purpose: To conduct a scoping review of the related research on cognitive frailty (CF) in maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients, so as to provide a basis for early diagnosis, treatment and intervention of CF in MHD patients.

Methods: Utilizing a scoping review approach, we searched PubMed, Embase, The Cochrane Library, Web of Science, CINAHL, the China Biological Medicine Database (CBM), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang, and Weipu (VIP) for literature on CF in MHD patients up to October 20, 2024. Two researchers conducted independent screening and data extraction of the literature's fundamental characteristics.

Background: Early diagnosis of metastases is crucial but routine staging with contrast-enhanced multidetector computed tomography (ceMDCT) is suboptimal. A total of 20% will have indeterminate or too small to characterize (TSTC) liver lesions on CT, requiring formal characterization by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). This UK cross-sectional study reports our experience undertaking routine abbreviated liver MRI (MRI).

Splenomegaly is a quite common clinical feature of Philadelphia (Ph) negative chronic myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) and its presence may, in some cases, drives treatment decision. Most importantly, palpable splenomegaly is a minor criterion for both pre-fibrotic/early primary myelofibrosis and primary myelofibrosis (PMF) diagnosis, even if clinical assessment by physical examination is poorly reliable and accurate. On the other hand, despite the International Working Group-Myeloproliferative Neoplasms Research and Treatment and European LeukemiaNet guidelines defined spleen response criteria by palpation, they also recognized the highly subjective nature of spleen size assessment by physical examination, and recommended objective confirmation of volume reduction via computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Nowcasting to Monitor Real-Time Mpox Trends During the 2022 Outbreak in New York City: Evaluation Using Reportable Disease Data Stratified by Race or Ethnicity.

Online J Public Health Inform

January 2025

Bureau of Communicable Disease, New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Long Island City, NY, United States.

Background: Applying nowcasting methods to partially accrued reportable disease data can help policymakers interpret recent epidemic trends despite data lags and quickly identify and remediate health inequities. During the 2022 mpox outbreak in New York City, we applied Nowcasting by Bayesian Smoothing (NobBS) to estimate recent cases, citywide and stratified by race or ethnicity (Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, and White). However, in real time, it was unclear if the estimates were accurate.
