The phase-dependent modulation pattern of the tibialis anterior (TA) flexion reflex was characterized during treadmill walking while transspinal stimulation was delivered at 15, 30, and 50 Hz above and below paresthesia in healthy participants. The flexion reflex was elicited following medial arch foot stimulation with a 30 ms (300 Hz) pulse train. During treadmill walking, the flexion reflex was evoked in the right leg every 3 to 5 steps, and stimuli were randomly dispersed across the step cycle that was divided into 16 equal bins.

Unlabelled: COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. During and after COVID-19, audiovestibular symptoms and impairments have been reported.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the impacts of COVID-19 on the peripheral and central auditory systems of children and adolescents following the acute COVID-19 phase based on behavioral, electroacoustic, and electrophysiological audiological assessments.

Background/objectives: Lower limb cutaneous reflex amplitudes can modulate across gait, which helps humans adjust rhythmic motor outputs to maintain balance in an ever-changing environment. Preliminary evidence suggests people who suffer from repetitive ankle sprains and residual feelings of giving way demonstrate altered cutaneous reflex patterns in the gastrocnemius. However, before cutaneous reflex assessment can be implemented as a clinical outcome measure, there is a need to substantiate these early findings by measuring reflex amplitudes across longer latency periods and exploring the variability of reflexes within each subject.

Adversity and trauma are commonly misunderstood human experiences affecting most individuals across post-secondary campuses. Depending on contextual factors, they can lead to lifelong challenges or growth. Without an adequate understanding, well-meaning individuals and organisations may unknowingly perpetuate harm.

High-Speed Video Blink Analysis Improves Detection of Facial Palsy in Early Guillain-Barré Syndrome.

Muscle Nerve

January 2025

Department of Medicine, St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne, The University of Melbourne, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Introduction/aims: Electrophysiological investigations in early Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) can be nondiagnostic. Improved testing for facial weakness in the early phase of GBS may improve diagnostic processes, as such weakness is found in approximately 50% of patients with GBS. This work pilots the utility of high-speed video analysis to complement blink reflex testing in early GBS.
