To quickly screen for single-phased multi-principal-element materials, a so-called entropy forming ability (EFA) parameter is sometimes used as a descriptor. The larger the EFA, the larger is the propensity to form a single-phase structure. We have investigated this EFA descriptor with atomic relaxations in special-quasi-random structures and discovered that the EFA correlates inversely with the lattice distortion. Large effective atomic size differences lead to multi-phase compounds, and little size differences to single-phase compounds. Instead of configurational entropy, we therefore demonstrate the applicability of the Hume-Rothery rules to phase stability of solid solutions even in compositionally complex ceramics.

Paxillin (PXN) and focal adhesion kinase (FAK) are two major components of the focal adhesion complex, a multiprotein structure linking the intracellular cytoskeleton to the cell exterior. PXN interacts directly with the C-terminal targeting domain of FAK (FAT) via its intrinsically disordered N-terminal domain. Polymer composite materials encounter considerable challenges in sustaining superior tribological properties at high rotational speeds. Inspired by the microstructure of dragonfly wings, a novel thermally stable and ambient pressure curing poly(urea-imide) resin (PURI) with excellent tribological properties has been eco-friendly synthesis using bio-based greener solvents. Furthermore, The PURI composites enhanced with polyether ether ketone (PEEK) and Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) blended fabrics demonstrate excellent mechanical, with tensile strengths exceeding 175 MPa.

This paper presents a novel encryption technique that integrates the Deep Convolutional Generative Adversarial Networks (DCGAN) and Virtual Planet Domain (VPD) approach to enhance the protection of medical images. Entropy-Driven Ring-Opening Polymerisation represents an attractive mechanism to produce high-performance polymeric materials as it can be performed using neat, low-viscosity precursors and without the production of by-products or release of volatiles. Macrocyclic oligomers (MCOs) of polyether ketone ketone (PEKK) were synthesised and investigated as an method of forming this high-performance thermoplastic. Cyclic oligomers were successfully synthesised by pseudo-high dilution methods, and the reaction conditions were optimised through careful addition of starting materials and carbonate base selection.
