Evaluation of radiation therapy on grafted and non-grafted defects: an experimental rat model.

J Appl Oral Sci

January 2025

Universidade Federal de Uberlândia, Faculdade de Odontologia, Departamento de Periodontia e Implantodontia, Uberlândia, Brasil.

Objective: This study aimed to assess the effects of a single-dose radiation therapy (15 Gy) on grafted and non-grafted defects, bone microarchitecture, and collagen maturity.

This study aimed to develop a novel reconstruction method for segmental mandibulectomy. In the authors' opinion, reconstruction of the anterior border of the mandibular ramus using a double-arm vascularized fibular flap is important to prevent deformity due to buccal depression and the accumulation of food debris, thereby eliminating masticatory dead space that cannot be filled with prostheses such as implants or dentures. Using conventional reconstruction plates, the reconstructed bone positioned at the anterior border of the mandibular ramus required either fixing with only 1 screw or using 2 plates for stable fixation, making it difficult to position the plates stably.

This study addresses disparities among people with a migration background (PMB) and those in less-urban regions, across the HIV prevention and care continuum (HIVPCC). We conducted a needs assessment and assets assessment to identify gaps between existing initiatives and persisting barriers. The research was conducted in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine (EMR), encompassing bordering regions in Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands, and involved in-depth interviews with fifteen first-generation PMB, including nine with HIV.

All throughout the so-called "Global South", hundreds of millions of individuals from entire communities in the rural, poorer, or most peripheral areas are not officially recorded by the States they are citizens of or they habitually reside in. This is why several of such States are resorting to extensive and purportedly "universal" digital remote onboarding programs, pioneered by India's Aadhaar, whereby individuals are centrally recorded onto a public database with their identity (and possibly citizenship) confirmed. Whenever paper documents are obsolete, inaccurate, deteriorated, or inexistent, individuals may have their identity confirmed through an "introducer", who mediates between marginalised communities and central authorities and is entrusted by both with this delicate task.
