Young-onset diabetes (YOD) is characterised by unique diagnostic and management challenges more pronounced in resource-limited settings like Sri Lanka. We aimed to ascertain the prevalence, patterns and characteristics of YOD in Sri Lanka and describe the state of care. Retrospective review of baseline data of all patients enrolled in the prospective multicentre Database for Young-Onset Diabetes, Sri Lanka (DYOD-SL), was performed, from April 2021 to April 2023.
A 40-year-old gravida 7 para 4+2 lady who was 14 weeks pregnant presented with a three-day history of sudden-onset flashes of light associated with a superonasal visual field defect on her right eye. She had two prior miscarriages that occurred in the second and third trimesters. Previous serological tests for antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) were normal.
The Himalayas experiences several cloudburst events due to its varied physiographical, geomorphological, and geological conditions and high rainfall. Uttarakhand is one of the Indian states circumscribed by the Himalayan ranges and has experienced a rise in the number of cloudburst catastrophes in the last few decades.
