The widespread reliance on paper-based currency poses significant drawbacks, such as counterfeiting, lack of transparency, and environmental impacts. While Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) address many of these issues, their dependence on continuous internet connectivity limits their usability in scenarios with poor or no network access. To overcome such limitations, this paper introduces ElasticPay, a novel Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Offline Digital Payment System that leverages advanced hardware security measures realised through Trusted Platform Modules (TPMs), Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs), and Secure Elements (SEs).

Spore-forming bacterial species pose a serious threat to food plants and healthcare facilities that use high-temperature processing and sterilizing techniques to sanitize medical equipment and food items. These severe processing conditions trigger sporulation, which is the process by which spore-forming bacteria, such as those of the and species, begin to produce spores, which are extremely resilient entities capable of withstanding adverse environmental circumstances. Additionally, these spores are resistant to a wide range of disinfectants and antibacterial therapies, such as hydrolytic enzymes, radiation, chemicals, and antibiotics.

The cryopreservation of human spermatozoa is an integral part of cryobiology, aiming to support the in-vitro fertilization. The latter relies on the availability of as much as possible reproductively active spermatozoa, whose number after thawing decreases due to the accompanied freezing injury and the cytotoxicity of cryoprotectants. An innovative option to circumvent these obstacles is to make the freezing interface non-wettable, by coating it with rapeseed oil soot possessing intrinsic cryoprotective properties, delaying the ice formation and possibly providing identical rates of intracellular dehydration and extracellular crystallization.

Background: Although previous research has substantiated lifestyle and cardiovascular-related measures have some impact on cognitive function, studies focusing on the correlation between Life's Essential 8 (LE8), an indicator for quantifying cardiovascular health (CVH), and cognitive function are limited. Consequently, this study sought to explore the potential link between CVH and cognitive function as well as to determine if depressive states mediated the relationship.
Methods: A total of 2,263 individuals were selected from the 2011-2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES).
