β-lactams are a chemically diverse group of molecules with a wide range of biological activities. Having recently observed curious trends in J coupling values in studies on this structural class, we sought to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of these diagnostic NMR parameters, specifically interrogating J, J, and J, to differentiate 3- and 4-monosubstituted β-lactams. Further investigation using computational chemistry methods was employed to explore the geometric and electronic origins for the observed and calculated differences between the two substitution patterns.

The potential applicability of the C nanocage and its boron nitride-doped analogs (CBN and CBN) as pyrazinamide (PA) carriers was investigated using density functional theory. Geometry optimization and energy calculations were performed using the B3LYP functional and 6-31G(d) basis set. Besides, dispersion-corrected interaction energies were calculated at CAM (Coulomb attenuated method)-B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) and M06-2X/6-31G(d,p) levels of theory.

Carbonless DNA.

Phys Chem Chem Phys

January 2025

Faculty of Chemistry, University of Gdańsk, Wita Stwosza 63, 80-308 Gdańsk, Poland.

Carbonless DNA was designed by replacing all carbon atoms in the standard DNA building blocks with boron and nitrogen, ensuring isoelectronicity. Electronic structure quantum chemistry methods (DFT(ωB97XD)/aug-cc-pVDZ) were employed to study both the individual building blocks and the larger carbon-free DNA fragments. The reliability of the results was validated by comparing selected structures and binding energies using more accurate methods such as MP2, CCSD, and SAPT2+3(CCD)δ.

Water-Compatible Staudinger-Diels-Alder Ligation.

Graduate School of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Toyama, 2630 Sugitani, Toyama 930-0194, Japan.

The development of bioorthogonal reactions is expected to propel further advances in chemical biology. In this study, we demonstrate Staudinger-Diels-Alder (SDA) ligation as a candidate for a new bioorthogonal reaction. This reaction ligates two molecules via strong C-C bonds at room temperature.

Nickel complexes are a potential candidate for antibacterial and antifungal activity. A new Ni (II) complex, bis(2-methoxy-6-{[(2-methylpropyl)imino]methyl}phenolato)nickel (II) (2), was synthesised by reacting, bis(3-methoxy-salicylaldehyde)nickel (II) (1) with isobutylamine. It was characterised by single crystal X-ray diffraction (ScXRD), UV-Vis, NMR, IR, mass spectrometry, and thermogravimetry (TG) to study its structure and physico-chemical properties.

Propyrisulfuron, a novel sulfonylurea herbicide, effectively suppresses intracellular acetolactate synthase activity for weed control, but its adsorption behavior in the soil environment remains unclear. To assess potential agroecosystem risks, the adsorption-desorption behavior and mechanism of propyrisulfuron in six typical agricultural soils of China were investigated using a batch equilibrium method, Density Functional Theory (DFT), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and Scanning Electron Microscopy equipped with Energy Dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX) techniques. It is indicated that the adsorption-desorption of propyrisulfuron in six soils reached equilibrium at 36 hours under the optimum water-to-soil ratio (WSr) of 5:1.
