We have performed coincidence mass spectrometry of fragmentation of pyrene molecules by 70 eV electron impact. Ionized fragments have been mass selected using a reflectron time-of-flight mass spectrometer, and a field programmable gate array has been used for the timing of the electron and ion extraction pulses and for the event-by-event detection of the ions. Double ionization results in a number of prominent fragmentations producing two singly-ionized fragments with kinetic energies of up to a few eV. A number of fragmentations produce ions with four or more carbon atoms, which can only be formed by the breaking of at least three C-C bonds.
We report FDG PET/CT findings of fumarate hydratase-deficient renal cell carcinoma coincidence with para-aortic paraganglioma in a 27-year-old man. He presented with painless gross hematuria for 3 days. CT identified an enhancing lesion in the left kidney, suggestive of a tumor.
Echinococcosis lacks sensitive serological diagnostic tools. The echinococcosis-specific antigens Eg95, AgB8/1 and the Em18 gene sequences were fused and expressed as the novel recombinant antigens rAgB8/1-Em18-Eg95 (T3) and rEm18-Eg95 (T2), used for the diagnosis of hydatid disease, prepared into an enzyme-linked immunosorbent reaction (ELISA) kit, and evaluated for their serological diagnostic value. The relative molecular weight of the T3 protein was 88.
Several database search methods have been employed in untargeted metabolomics utilizing high-resolution mass spectrometry to comprehensively annotate acquired product ion spectra. Recent technical advancements in analyses have facilitated the sorting of the degree of coincidence between a query product ion spectrum, and the molecular structures in the database. However, certain search results may be false positives, necessitating a method for controlling the false discovery rate (FDR).
We report vibrationally resolved threshold photoelectron spectra of several sulfur-containing reactive intermediates. This includes the organosulfur radicals CHS, CHS, CHSH, CHS, and SH, which are relevant in atmospheric chemistry and in astrochemical settings. Due to the high reactivity, the radicals were prepared pyrolysis of (CH)S.
While obesity and its associated complications, mainly diabetes and hypertension, have been the largest public health problems of modern world, the emerging data suggests an increasing prevalence of primary hyperaldosteronism (PA) as one of the most common undiagnosed causes of hypertension. We believe that rising prevalence of PA in the era of high rates of obesity is likely not a chance finding but is deeply intersected with the rising rates of obesity. Higher serum aldosterone concentrations and urinary aldosterone excretion have been observed in patients with increased body mass index or larger waist circumference.
