Corruption represents a complex problem firmly embedded within our societal structures, governments, and organizations. The current study aimed to build a clearer consensus on the extent to which perceptions of organizational corruption are associated with organizational hierarchy. Two high-powered close replications of studies 1c and 6 by Fath and Kay provide further evidence for the claim that taller organizational structures are associated with greater perceived potential for corruption, and that these perceptions may compromise subsequent trust-related outcomes. Our results reinforce the importance of organizational design and aim to inspire future works to consider the ways in which researchers and organizations can minimize corruption. Revisiting hydrogen peroxide as radiosensitizer for solid tumor cells.

Radiother Oncol

December 2024

Department of Radiotherapy, UZ Brussel, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, 1090 Brussels, Belgium. Electronic address:

Background And Purpose: Tumor hypoxia is the principal cause of clinical radioresistance. Despite its established role as radiosensitizer, hydrogen peroxide (HO) encounters clinical limitations due to stability and toxicity concerns. Recent advancements in drug delivery combine HO with sodium hyaluronate (SH), enabling intratumoral administration of HO.

Article Synopsis
  • Cyclotides are stable cyclic peptides with potential to protect neurons in neurological disorders by modifying their structure for better delivery.
  • The study involved enhancing the cyclotide MCoTI-II with polyarginines and inserting an NMDA receptor inhibitor sequence, which improved neuronal uptake and prevented cell death from excitotoxicity.
  • In tests, the modified cyclotide (c5R-NR2B9c) not only protected primary neurons but also increased survival and reduced seizure severity in a mouse model, indicating its potential as a therapeutic strategy.

Background: Tricuspid regurgitation (TR) and mitral regurgitation (MR) are common valvular conditions encountered in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). This retrospective study investigates the impact of moderate or severe TR and MR on all-cause mortality in 1-year post-TAVR patients.

Methods: Consecutive patients who underwent TAVR at the 3 academic tertiary care centers in our health system between 2012 and 2018 were identified.

Article Synopsis
  • Discrimination in evaluations contributes significantly to social inequality, yet there is limited knowledge about psychological interventions to combat biased assessments.
  • A research contest tested 30 interventions aimed at reducing discrimination based on physical attractiveness, revealing two effective strategies that reduced both decision noise and bias.
  • The findings highlight the need for concrete strategies that focus on relevant criteria in decision-making and emphasize the challenge of developing scalable interventions to effectively change discriminatory behaviors across various contexts.

Article Synopsis
  • Coronary artery disease (CAD) significantly affects mortality rates in adults with diabetes mellitus (DM) in the U.S., with over 1.4 million deaths recorded between 1999 and 2020.
  • The study found a decrease in age-adjusted mortality rates for CAD in DM, with men having higher rates than women, and the most significant declines noted in Hispanic populations.
  • Geographic and racial disparities in mortality rates were evident, with the highest rates occurring in American Indians/Alaska Natives and nonmetropolitan areas, calling for focused public health interventions.
