Background: A complete understanding of the different steps of HIV replication and an effective drug combination have led to modern antiretroviral regimens that block HIV replication for decades, but these therapies are not curative and must be taken for life. "Elite controllers" (ECs) is a term for the 0.5% of HIV-infected persons requiring no antiretroviral therapy, whose status may point the way toward a functional HIV cure. Defining the mechanisms of this control may be key to understanding how to replicate this functional cure in others.
Methods: In ECs and untreated non-EC patients, we compared IFNα serum concentration, distribution of immune cell subsets, and frequency of cell markers associated with immune dysfunction. We also investigated the effect of an elevated dose of IFNα on distinct subsets within dendritic cells, natural killer cells, and CD4+ and CD8 + T cells.
Results: Serum IFNα was undetectable in ECs, but all immune cell subsets from untreated non-EC patients were structurally and functionally impaired. We also show that the altered phenotype and function of these cell subsets in non-EC patients can be recapitulated when cells are stimulated in vitro with high-dose IFNα.
Conclusions: Elevated IFNα is a key mediator of HIV pathogenesis.

Change in mucosal microbiome is associated with various types of cancer in digestive tract. We hypothesized that microbial communities in the esophageal endoscopic wash fluids reflects resident flora in esophageal mucosa that is associated with esophageal carcinoma (EC) risk and/or directly correlates microbiome derived from EC tumor tissue. Studying microbial communities in esophageal endoscopic wash samples would be therefore useful to predict the incidence or risk of EC.

Objective: The objective of this study was to verify the clinical predictive performance of methylated cysteine dioxygenase type 1 () and CUGBP Elav-like family member 4 () in endometrial cancer (EC) women with postmenopausal bleeding (PMB).
Material And Methods: A single-center, prospective, and case-control study was conducted in the Gansu Provincial Maternity and Child-care Hospital with 138 female postmenopausal patients enrolled in 2022. All patients underwent body mass index (BMI) detection, transvaginal ultrasonography (TVUS) detection, carbohydrate antigen 125 detection, and the cervical exfoliated cell gene methylation detection to analyze the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of different screening tests statistically with the biopsy and/or dilation and curettage (D&C) pathological diagnosis under hysteroscopy as the gold standard.
Background: An epicardial connection (EC) through the intercaval bundle (EC-ICB) between the right pulmonary vein (RPV) and right atrium (RA) is one of the reasons for the need for carina ablation for PV isolation and may reduce the acute and chronic success of PV isolation. We evaluated the intra-atrial activation sequence during RPV pacing after failure of ipsilateral RPV isolation and sought to identify specific conduction patterns in the presence of EC-ICB.
