High-altitude regions are prone to plateau erythrocytosis due to unique geo-climatic conditions such as low oxygen, high altitude, and low temperatures, with significantly higher incidences of hyperlipidemia and hyperuricemia compared to lowland areas. However, the extreme environmental conditions at high altitudes and the elevated hematocrit levels in blood samples from these populations present significant challenges to the applicability of existing point-of-care testing (POCT) devices. This study describes the development, early clinical validation, and potential clinical impact of three portable, paper-based photochemical biosensing platforms specifically designed for use at high altitudes to monitor hemoglobin, lipids, and uric acid in blood samples.

Ammonium level in body fluids serves as one of the critical biomarkers for healthcare, especially those relative to liver diseases. The continuous and real-time monitoring in both invasive and non-invasive manners is highly desired, while the ammonium concentrations vary largely in different body fluids. Besides, the sensing reliability based on ion-selective biosensors can be significantly interfered by potassium ions.

Nowadays, ENMs/NPLs particles have not yet been extensively measured in the environment, but there is increased concern that this size fraction may be more widely distributed and hazardous than larger-sized particles. This study aimed to examine the bioaccumulation potential of engineered nanomaterials and nanoplastics (ENMs/NPLs) across marine food webs, focusing on plankton communities and commercial fish species (Engraulis encrasicolus and Scomber colias) from the Gulf of Naples. Laboratory experiments on plankton assemblages exposed to fluorescent polystyrene nanoplastics (PS-NPs, 100 nm) for 24h at concentrations ranging from 0.

Peroxynitrite (ONOO) and viscosity are critical indicators of lysosome functionality, intimately linked to numerous diseases' pathophysiological processes. Hence, creating reliable analytical techniques to observe fluctuations in lysosomal ONOO and viscosity is highly important. This study presents the development of a novel naphthalimide-based fluorescent probe, Nap-Cy, specifically designed to target lysosomes and simultaneously detect both ONOO and viscosity.

Endosulfan (Ed), a widely used organochlorine pesticide, is classified as a persistent organic pollutant (POP). Its long half-life, resistance to degradation, and bioaccumulation in the food chain contaminates soil, water, and air. Such widespread environmental damage triggers monitoring its levels for ensuring compliance with safety regulations and protecting public health.
