Alzheimer's disease (AD), a debilitating neurodegenerative condition, is characterized by progressive cognitive decline brought about by the deposition of amyloid beta (Aβ) plaques in the brain initiates downstream neuronal dysfunction and death in AD pathogenesis. The β-secretase (BACE-1) enzyme plays a crucial role in generating Aβ from amyloid precursor protein (APP). Hence, we report the virtual screening of marine phytochemicals as BACE-1 inhibitors. 2583 compounds, retrieved from Comprehensive Marine Natural Product Database (CMNPD), were primarily screened for drug-likeliness and blood-brain barrier permeability using admetSAR 2.0 and BBBper tool and resulted in a total of 635 phytochemicals, selected for further docking studies using BACE-1 as target receptor and Atabecestat as standard BACE-1 inhibitor. Seven of 635 compounds docked against BACE-1, showed better binding affinities than Atabecestat, with the red algal metabolite lactodehydrothyrsiferol showing lowest binding energy of -10.83 kcal/mol. These compounds are worth investigating further to assess their neuroprotective efficacy and pharmacokinetic properties. The study also provides a rational framework to uncover novel pharmacophores from marine sources for AD therapy acting through BACE-1 inhibition.

The widespread reliance on single-use plastics (SUPs) has fostered a global throwaway culture, especially in the food packaging industry, where convenience and low cost have driven their adoption, posing serious environmental threats, particularly to marine ecosystems and biodiversity. Edible and ecofriendly packaging made from millet, specifically sorghum ( () Moench), is a promising solution to mitigate SUP consumption and promote sustainability. This study explores the development of edible sorghum bowls, enhanced through roasting and incorporating 3 g of hibiscus and rose flower powders.

Background: Radix Paeoniae Rubra (RPR), an edible and medicinal Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), is extensively employed in therapeutic interventions of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. However, the curative effect of RPR on ischemic stroke remains ambiguous. This work integrated network pharmacology, molecular docking, and experimental validation to explore the mechanisms of RPR in treating ischemic stroke.

Burn wounds are challenging to treat due to considerable tissue damage and fluid loss. Creating wound dressings from natural and biological materials makes it possible to treat wounds and promote rapid epithelialization to speed healing and restore skin function. As a result, the ability of a collagen scaffold (Col) made from rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and putative bioactive phytochemical components from a Sargassum glaucescens (S.

Marine algae are renowned for their health benefits due to the presence of functional bioactive compounds. In this context, this study aims to valorize the extract of a seaweed, (), through phytochemical characterization using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS), as well as in vitro and in silico evaluation of its biological activities (antioxidant and antimicrobial). Phytochemical characterization revealed that the ethanolic extract of (DdEx) is rich in phenolic compounds, with a total of 22 phycocompounds identified.
