Objectives: Alpha-lactalbumin, the protein from human and bovine milk has been found to be promising as an alternative of anticancer agent This study was aimed to investigate the effects of lactalbumin enzymatic hydrolysate (LAH) on cell proliferation, migration, and mRNA expression of () on human squamous cell carcinoma (hSCC) cell lines, .

Methods: Tongue (HSC-4 and 7) and pharyngeal (HN-30 and 31) hSCC cell lines were treated with a two-fold dilution of LAH (0.39-100 mg/ml). Cell viability and cell proliferation were examined by MTT assay. Colony forming unit (CFU) was assessed by crystal violet blue staining. Cell migration was investigated by scratch wound healing assay. Gene expression of metastasis-associated was assessed by RT-qPCR. Statistical analyses were evaluated at value = 0.05.

Results: LAH at concentration of 50 and 100 mg/ml exhibited cytotoxicity on hSCC cells. The proliferation and CFU ability of hSCC cells were significantly attenuated after LAH treatment. The mRNA expression of , , and was reduced in HN-30 and HN-31 cells while expression of and was downregulated in HSC-7 cells. Only mRNA level was reduced in HSC-4 cells. However, cell migration of all hSCC cell lines did not alter after LAH treatment.

Conclusion: LAH treatment exhibits inhibitory effects on hSCC cell growth, proliferation and gene expression. Thus, LAH should be the promising alternative agent to develop the prospective anti-cancer drug.

Rationale And Objectives: Patients with Hypopharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma (HSCC) exhibiting lymphovascular invasion (LVI) frequently demonstrate a poor prognosis. We aim to determine whether contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT)-derived intratumoral and peritumoral radiomic features could predict the LVI status of HSCC patients.

Materials And Methods: 166 patients with pathologically confirmed HSCC were included in this study, 47 of whom were LVI positive.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the use of Acustic Radiation Force Impulse (ARFI) elastography in mammary parenchyma and supramammary lymph nodes, for detection of active mastitis in sheep with naturally infected chronic fibrous lesions. 27 female sheep were included and B-mode ultrasound and ARFI elastography images were obtained, acquiring qualitative (echogenicity and echotexture) and quantitative (shear rate, depth and short/long axis ratio) variables of 48 mammary glands. The glands were divided into three experimental groups: control group (CG) - healthy animals; LSCC- animals that presented fibrous lesions and SCC (somatic cell count) less than 500 x 10 cls/mL; HSCC: animals that presented fibrous lesions and SCC (somatic cell count) more than 500 x 10 cls/mL; The qualitative variables using B-mode ultrasonography, including echotexture and echogenicity, showed no significant differences between the evaluated groups and tissues (p = 0.

Background: Dairy cow milking practices require cleaning and disinfection of the teat skin before and after milking to ensure the safety and quality of milk and prevent intramammary infections. Antimicrobial proteins of natural origin can be valuable alternatives to traditional disinfectants. In a recent field trial, we demonstrated that a teat dip based on a nisin A-producing Lactococcus cremoris (L) had comparable efficacy to conventional iodophor dip (C) in preventing dairy cow mastitis.

Article Synopsis
  • Hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (HSCC) is a dangerous head and neck tumor with a grim outlook, and there’s limited research on its spatial transcriptomics—an advanced technique for analyzing gene expression in tissue samples.
  • This study performed spatial transcriptomic analysis on tumor and nearby tissues from four HSCC patients to identify the roles of different cell types, using specific markers for epithelial, fibroblast, and immune cells.
  • Results indicated that fibroblasts might play a role in tumor growth, immune infiltration is lower in metastatic lymph nodes compared to primary tumors, and certain favorable prognosis markers were significantly down-regulated in tumor and metastatic tissues.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the role of lncRNA MALAT1 in Hypopharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma (HSCC) and its mechanisms, finding that MALAT1 is significantly upregulated in cancerous tissues and linked to poor patient outlook.
  • Researchers utilized various techniques like qRT-PCR and Cox regression analysis to confirm that MAP2K1 is a key downstream target affected by MALAT1, impacting tumor behavior.
  • Experiments demonstrated that inhibiting MALAT1 could suppress HSCC cell proliferation, migration, and tumor growth by downregulating MAP2K1, suggesting that targeting MALAT1 might provide new treatment strategies for HSCC.
