In the rat, DNA carrying a cluster of the genes for tRNAAsp, tRNAGly, and tRNAGlu, aligned in that order, is repeated about 10 times. Seven DNA clones corresponding to the independent repeating units were isolated from a rat gene library. Nucleotide sequence analysis of these clones revealed the presence of a fourth tRNA gene, the gene for tRNALeu, in the cluster. The tRNALeu gene is located about 600 base pairs (bp) upstream from the tRNAAsp gene and its polarity differs from those of the other three tRNA genes. Among the repeating units, the nucleotide sequence of tRNALeu is conserved to a relatively high degree.

The leakage and accumulation of plastic in the environment is a significant and growing problem with numerous detrimental impacts and has led to a push toward the design and development of more environmentally benign materials. To this end we have developed a quantum chemistry (QC) based model for predicting the mobility of polymer materials from molecular structure. Hydrophobicity is used as a surrogate for mobility given that hydrophobic interactions drive much of the partitioning of contaminants in and out of various environmentally relevant compartments.

Gene editing technologies, particularly clustered regularly interspersed short palindromic repeats (CRISPR) and CRISPR-associated (Cas) proteins, have revolutionized the ability to modify gene sequences in living cells for therapeutic purposes. Delivery of CRISPR/Cas ribonucleoprotein (RNP) is preferred over its DNA and RNA formats in terms of gene editing effectiveness and low risk of off-target events. The natural compound orotic acid and its anionic form, orotate, play a pivotal role in various biological processes, serving as essential intermediates in pyrimidine de novo synthesis, with demonstrated connections to dietary, supplement, and neurodrug applications. A novel perspective on biomolecular aggregation at the nanoscale, particularly pertinent to neurodegeneration, challenges the established paradigm positing that peptide (amyloid beta) and protein (tau) aggregation mainly govern the molecular events underlying prevalent neuropathologies. Emerging biological evidence indicates a notable role for G-quadruplex (G4) DNA aggregation in neurodegenerative processes affecting neuronal cells, particularly in the presence of extended (GC) repeats in nuclear DNA sequences.
