The order parameter for a continuous transition shows diverging fluctuation near the critical point. Here we show, through numerical simulations and scaling arguments, that the inequality (or variability) between the values of an order parameter, measured near a critical point, is independent of the system size. Quantification of such variability through the Gini index (g) therefore leads to a scaling form g=G[|F-F_{c}|N^{1/dν}], where F denotes the driving parameter for the transition (e.g., temperature T for ferromagnetic to paramagnetic transition, or lattice occupation probability p in percolation), N is the system size, d is the spatial dimension and ν is the correlation length exponent. We demonstrate the scaling for the Ising model in two and three dimensions, site percolation on square lattice, and the fiber bundle model of fracture.

This study aimed to investigate comfort and its related factors in clinical nurses working in teaching hospitals of Kashan University of Medical Sciences in Iran. In this cross-sectional study, 300 nurses were selected by stratified random sampling method (2022). Data were collected using the Persian version of the nurse comfort questionnaire and a questionnaire of possible related factors.

While numerous studies have established correlations between parasite load and negative effects on their hosts, establishing causality is more challenging because parasites can directly compromise host condition and survival or simply opportunistically thrive on an already weakened host. Here, we evaluated whether Ixodes uriae, a widespread seabird tick, can cause a decrease in growth parameters (body mass, bill length and growth rates) and survival of chicks of a colonially seabird, the black-browed albatross (Thalassarche melanophris) breeding on New Island (West Falkland). To investigate this, we daily removed the ticks from 28 randomly selected chicks during their first 14 days of life (treated chicks) and compared their growth and survival with 49 chicks of a control group.

The mechanical responses of sandy soil under dynamic loading is closely related to protective engineering and geotechnical engineering, is still not fully understood. To investigate the energy attenuation law and propagation velocity of compressed waves in dry sandy soil, this paper focuses on the dynamic response of compression waves in the specimen under single impact and repetitive impact conditions using an improved split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB). The results reveal that the length of the specimen follows an exponential relationship with the attenuation of the peak stress.

Background: Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols can reduce the length of stay (LOS) for surgical patients, including those undergoing unilateral deep inferior epigastric artery perforator (DIEP) flap breast reconstruction, allowing most patients to be discharged by postoperative day 2. However, some patients require a prolonged inpatient stay due to difficulty completing postoperative milestones. This study aims to identify factors associated with increased LOS after DIEP flap breast reconstruction and assess safety of earlier discharge.

Background: Traumatic cervical spinal cord injury (cSCI) is a serious condition that requires a multidisciplinary treatment approach involving care at a neurotrauma center (NTC) and specialized rehabilitation. Contemporary population-based studies of cSCI are important for ensuring the quality and planning of health care approaches for these patients.
Methods: This is a population-based cohort study of patients with traumatic cSCI who were admitted to the NTC in Southeast Norway between 2015 and 2022.
