Published: March 2024

Sterile water injections (SWI) is a nonpharmacologic pain relief option to treat back pain in labor. This case report describes and discusses the use of SWI in the context of an obstetric retrieval of a 29-year-old woman who was transferred by the Royal Flying Doctor Service South Eastern Section. It provides an overview of SWI, discusses the relevance for medical transport, and offers suggestions for medical transport professionals.

Background: Failed back surgery syndrome is a common problem faced by chronic pain management specialists. Steroid-only epidural injections have modest efficacy because of excessive scarring. Epidural hyaluronidase (HA), functions as a depolymerizing agent, successfully breaking down adhesions and collagen bundles, whereas dexmedetomidine (DEX) helps to reduce inflammation.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is associated with cognitive impairments which are linked to a deficit in cholinergic function. The objective of this study was to evaluate the ability of TeMac™ to prevent memory impairment in scopolamine-rats model of Alzheimer's disease and by in silico approaches to identify molecules in TeMac™ inhibiting acetylcholinesterase. The cholinergic cognitive dysfunction was induced by intraperitoneal injection of scopolamine (1 mg/kg daily) in male Wistar rats for seven consecutive days.

Background: It is generally accepted that the greater palatine nerve and artery supply the palatal mucosa, gingiva, and glands, but not the bone or tooth adjacent to those tissues. When the bony palate is observed closely, multiple small foramina are seen on the palatal surface of the alveolar process. The authors hypothesized that the greater palatine nerve and artery might supply the maxillary teeth via the foramina on the palatal surface of the alveolar process and the superior alveolar nerve and artery.

Mannose Promotes β-Amyloid Pathology by Regulating BACE1 Glycosylation in Alzheimer's Disease.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

Fujian Provincial Key Laboratory of Neurodegenerative Disease and Aging Research, Institute of Neuroscience, School of Medicine, Xiamen University, Xiangan South Road, Xiamen, Fujian, 361102, P. R. China.

Hyperglycemia accelerates Alzheimer's disease (AD) progression, yet the role of monosaccharides remains unclear. Here, it is demonstrated that mannose, a hexose, closely correlates with the pathological characteristics of AD, as confirmed by measuring mannose levels in the brains and serum of AD mice, as well as in the serum of AD patients. AD mice are given mannose by intra-cerebroventricular injection (ICV) or in drinking water to investigate the effects of mannose on cognition and AD pathological progression.

This study aimed to investigate the mechanism by which Shegan Mahuang Decoction(SGMH) and its bitter Chinese herbs(BCHs) regulated the lung-gut axis through the bitter taste receptor 14(TAS2R14)/secretory immunoglobulin A(SIgA)/thymic stromal lymphopoietin(TSLP) to intervene in the epithelial cell barrier of cold asthma rats. Fifty SD rats were randomly divided into the following five groups: normal group, model group, dexamethasone group, SGMH group, and BCHs group. A 10% ovalbumin(OVA) solution was used to sensitize the rats via subcutaneous injection on both sides of the abdomen and groin, combined with 2% OVA atomization and cold(2-4 ℃) stimulation to induce a cold asthma model in rats.
