The selective spatial mode excitation of a bi-dimensional grating-coupled micro-cavity called a cavity resonator integrated grating filter (CRIGF) is reported using an incident beam shaped to reproduce the theoretical emission profiles of the device in one and subsequently two dimensions. In both cases, the selective excitation of modes up to order 10 (per direction) is confirmed by responses exhibiting one (respectively two) spectrally narrowband resonance(s) with a good extinction of the other modes, the latter being shown to depend on the parity and order(s) of the involved modes. These results pave the way toward the demonstration of multi-wavelength spatially selective reflectors or fiber-to-waveguide couplers. Also, subject to an appropriate choice of the materials constituting the CRIGF, this work can be extended to obtain mode-selectable laser emission or nonlinear frequency conversion.

An anisotropic plasmonic trimer is proposed as an effective spectroscopic amplifier for the maximum signal enhancement of the Hyper-Raman Scattering (HRS) process. The three-particle system is composed of asymmetric Au nanorings arranged collinearly in a J-aggregate configuration and illuminated by a longitudinally polarized light. The optical properties of the considered trimer have been numerically simulated by the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method.

Neuropeptides are key modulators of adult neurocircuits, balancing their sensitivity to both excitation and inhibition, and fine-tuning fast neurotransmitter action under physiological conditions. Here, we reason that transient increases in neuropeptide availability and action exist during brain development for synapse maturation, selection, and maintenance. We discuss fundamental concepts of neuropeptide signaling at G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), with a particular focus on how signaling at neuropeptide GPCRs could underpin neuronal morphogenesis.

High-level quantum chemical calculations are performed for the (NH)MO and (NH)MO species (M = Ti-Cu), extending our previous work on the bare MO ions. The potential energy curves along the M-O distance are constructed for the ground and multiple excited electronic states of (NH)MO and are compared to those of MO. We see that ammonia stabilizes the oxo states (MO) over the oxyl (MO) ones.

Purpose: To investigate retinal vascular abnormalities in the affected and fellow eyes of children with Coats' disease using Optos® ultra-widefield fundus fluorescein angiography (UWFFA) and compare the peripheral vascular abnormalities between fellow eyes and normal control eyes.
Methods: Children diagnosed with Coats' disease who underwent UWFFA were retrospectively reviewed. Healthy eyes with complete UWFFA data were selected as controls.

Spike-wave-discharges (SWD) are the electrophysiological hallmark of absence epilepsy. SWD are generated in the thalamo-cortical network and a seizure onset zone was identified in the somatosensory cortex (S1). We have shown before that inhibition of the centromedian thalamic nucleus (CM) in GAERS rats resulted in a selective suppression of the spike component while rhythmic cortical 5-9 Hz oscillations remained present.
