Article Abstract
Photosynthesis of HO from seawater represents a promising pathway to acquire HO, but it is still restricted by the lack of a highly active photocatalyst. In this work, we propose a convenient strategy of regulating the number of benzene rings to boost the catalytic activity of materials. This is demonstrated by ECUT-COF-31 with adding two benzene rings as the connector, which can result in 1.7-fold enhancement in the HO production rate relative to ECUT-COF-30 with just one benzene ring as the connector. The reason for enhancement is mainly due to the release of *OOH from the surface of catalyst and the final formation of HO being easier in ECUT-COF-31 than in ECUT-COF-30. Moreover, ECUT-COF-31 provides a stable photogeneration of HO for 70 h, and a theoretically remarkable HO production of 58.7 mmol per day from seawater using one gram of photocatalyst, while the cost of the used raw material is as low as 0.24 $/g.

It is well known that metals and metal oxides with different crystal facets exhibit varying sensitivity in gas sensors, but this strategy is rarely used in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Herein, we proved for the first time that Cu metal-organic with high energy crystal facets (Cu-MOF-74-300) shows a much higher sensitivity than the low energy crystal facets (Cu-MOF-74-110), with a up to 2 times response more than Cu-MOF-74-110 and ultra-low limit of detection (LOD) of 68 ppb to toluene vapors. In addition, this strategy was further demonstrated on MOF-14 and HKUST-1, which are also Cu-centered and exhibit clear recognition effects on benzene and xylene, respectively.

The introduction of 4,5-dihydroazuleno[2,1,8-ija]azulene as a central core between two 1,4-dithiafulvene (DTF) units provides a novel class of extended tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) electron donors. Herein we present the synthesis of such compounds with the azulenoazulene further expanded by annulation to benzene, naphthalene, or thiophene rings. Moreover, unsymmetrical donor-acceptor chromophores with one DTF and one carbonyl at the central core are presented.

Two new phenyl-sulfonyl-indole derivatives, namely, -{[3-bromo-1-(phenyl-sulfon-yl)-1-indol-2-yl]meth-yl}--(4-bromo-3-meth-oxy-phen-yl)benzene-sulfonamide, CHBrNOS, (), and ,-bis-{[3-bromo-1-(phenyl-sulfon-yl)-1-indol-2-yl]meth-yl}benzene-sulfonamide, CHBrNOS, (), reveal the impact of intra-molecular π-π inter-actions of the indole moieties as a factor not only governing the conformation of ,-bis-(1-indol-2-yl)meth-yl)amines, but also significantly influencing the crystal patterns. For , the crystal packing is dominated by C-H⋯π and π-π bonding, with a particular significance of mutual indole-indole inter-actions.
