Microbiota analysis of perimenopausal women experiencing recurrent vaginitis in conjunction with urinary tract infection.

BMC Microbiol

January 2025

Shanghai-MOST Key Laboratory of Health and Disease Genomics, NHC Key Lab of Reproduction Regulation, Shanghai Institute for Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Technologies, Shanghai, 200237, China.

Background: Recurrent vaginitis in conjunction with urinary tract infection (RV/UTI) in perimenopausal women is a common clinical condition that impacts both doctors and patients. Its pathogenesis is not completely known, but the urogenital microbiota is thought to be involved. We compared the urogenital and gut microbiotas of perimenopausal women experiencing RV/UTI with those of age-matched controls to provide a new microbiological perspective and scheme for solving clinical problems.

The Jalap Roots: A Herbal Legacy from the Neotropics to the World.

J Ethnopharmacol

Etnopharmacological Relevance: The Convolvulaceae or morning glory family, with about 2000 species in the world's Tropics and subtropics, stands out among the plants used in traditional medicine. Medicinal plant complexes with important purgative properties have been developed in Mexico and Brazil from members of the genera Ipomoea and Operculina with storage roots. Popularly known as the jalap roots, their resin glycosides cause purgative and laxative activities that facilitate bowel movements.

The interception effect of a multi-filtration system of moss tufa on heavy metal levels in the stream.

Sci Total Environ

January 2025

Key Laboratory for Information System of Mountainous Area and Protection of Ecological Environment of Guizhou Province, Guizhou Normal University, Guiyang 550025, China.

Moss tufa, a significant filtration system in karst environments, plays a crucial role in intercepting heavy metals in water and ensuring aquatic ecological security. However, studies on the superimposed effect of multi-filtration moss tufa systems on intercepting heavy metals in water are scarce. Thus, this study focused on three adjacent moss tufa filtration systems (upstream, midstream, and downstream) as research subjects.

Evidence for microbially-mediated tradeoffs between growth and defense throughout coral evolution.

Anim Microbiome

January 2025

School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, Division of Biological Sciences, University of Washington Bothell, UWBB-277, Bothell, WA, 98011, USA.

Background: Evolutionary tradeoffs between life-history strategies are important in animal evolution. Because microbes can influence multiple aspects of host physiology, including growth rate and susceptibility to disease or stress, changes in animal-microbial symbioses have the potential to mediate life-history tradeoffs. Scleractinian corals provide a biodiverse, data-rich, and ecologically-relevant host system to explore this idea.

Performance of the PhoP (Rv0757/Mb0780) protein as diagnostic antigen for bovine tuberculosis.

Res Vet Sci

December 2024

Instituto Nacional de Tecnología Agropecuaria, Instituto de Agrobiotecnología y Biología Molecular (IB-IABiMo), UEDD INTA-CONICET, Hurlingham, Buenos Aires, Argentina; CONICET, Argentina. Electronic address:

Bovine tuberculosis (bTB), a global zoonotic disease, causes negative effects on human and animal health. PhoP protein is a key regulator of pathogenic phenotypes in members of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex, which includes the causative agent of bTB. Despite extensive research on this protein focused in deciphering its regulatory role, little was explored about it as a diagnostic antigen.
