A novel hierarchical porous biochar based on ZIF-8 volatile hard template with high-efficiency electrochemical sensing performance for trace determination of Ponceau 4R.

A convenient method is proposed using a heat-treatable volatile template to prepare hierarchical porous biochar (HPB). Litsea cubeba leaves and ZIF-8 served as carbon source and volatile hard template, respectively. The good compatibility between ZIF-8 and biomass facilitated their uniform dispersion, and the thermal decomposition of ZIF-8 created abundant pores in the HPB.

In-Plane Polarization-Triggered WS-Ferroelectric Heterostructured Synaptic Devices.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

January 2025

School of Information Science and Technology, Fudan University, Shanghai 200433, China.

To date, various kinds of memristors have been proposed as artificial neurons and synapses for neuromorphic computing to overcome the so-called von Neumann bottleneck in conventional computing architectures. However, related working principles are mostly ascribed to randomly distributed conductive filaments or traps, which usually lead to high stochasticity and poor uniformity. In this work, a heterostructure with a two-dimensional WS monolayer and a ferroelectric PZT film were demonstrated for memristors and artificial synapses, triggered by in-plane ferroelectric polarization.

Structural, thermal, and dynamic properties of four deep eutectic solvents comprising choline chloride paired with phenolic derivative hydrogen-bond donors were probed using experiments and molecular simulations. The hydrogen-bond donors include phenol, catechol, -chlorophenol, and o-cresol, in a 3:1 mixture with the hydrogen-bond acceptor choline chloride. Density, viscosity, and pulsed-field gradient NMR diffusivity measurements were conducted over a range of temperatures.

Nanosecond pulsed electric fields (nsPEFs) can induce protein-mediated electroporation (PMEP) in voltage-gated ion channels. However, their effects on the tetrameric structure of voltage-gated potassium (Kv) channels remain unexplored. Our study pioneered the molecular dynamics (MD) investigation of the open-state (O) Kv channel to understand the effects of PMEP under unipolar and bipolar pulses (UP and BP).

Correlation of Phase Structure, Defect Relaxation, and Microwave Dielectric Properties in Low-Loss MgTiO Ceramic Systems.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of New Ceramics and Fine Processing, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Tsinghua University, Beijing 100084, China.

Low-loss microwave dielectrics are of significant importance for the miniaturization and integration of microwave devices. In this paper, the ceramics of nominal composition MgTiO ( = 3-6) are synthesized, and the correlations among their phase compositions, defect behaviors, and microwave dielectric properties are systematically investigated. The analyses indicate that the MgTiO ceramics are a biphasic system consisting of hexagonal ilmenite-structured MgTiO and cubic spinel-structured MgTiO.
