Using the methylation level of miRNA genes to develop a prognostic model for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). least absolute shrinkage and selection operator and multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed to develop a prognostic model. One miRNA in the model was selected for verification. A prognostic model was developed using eight miRNAs. The areas under the curve for predicting overall survival at 1, 3 and 5 years were 0.75, 0.81 and 0.81. miR-223 was found to be hypomethylated in 160 HCC tissues, and its methylation level was associated with Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer stages and the prognosis of patients with HCC. The prognostic model based on miRNA methylation levels has the capability to partially forecast the prognosis of patients with HCC.

ATRX mutation modifies the DNA damage response in glioblastoma multiforme tumor cells and enhances patient prognosis.

Medicine (Baltimore)

January 2025

Department of Anesthesiology, West China Second University Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, Sichuan, P.R. China.

The presence of specific genetic mutations in patients with glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is associated with improved survival outcomes. Disruption of the DNA damage response (DDR) pathway in tumor cells enhances the effectiveness of radiotherapy drugs, while increased mutational burden following tumor cell damage also facilitates the efficacy of immunotherapy. The ATRX gene, located on chromosome X, plays a crucial role in DDR.

Endosomes play a pivotal role in cellular biology, orchestrating processes such as endocytosis, molecular trafficking, signal transduction, and recycling of cellular materials. This study aims to construct an endosome-related gene (ERG)-derived risk signature for breast cancer prognosis. Transcriptomic and clinical data were retrieved from The Cancer Genome Atlas and the University of California Santa Cruz databases to build and validate the model.

The optimal surgical indication for intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN) remains highly contentious. We aimed to determine the preoperative predictive factors of malignancy and independent prognostic factors in patients with IPMN who underwent curative-intent resection. In this study, 104 patients with a pathological diagnosis of IPMN who underwent curative-intent resection were included.

Characteristics and prognosis of testicular mixed teratoma and seminoma.

J Cancer Res Ther

December 2024

Department of Urology, The Affiliated Suzhou Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Suzhou Municipal Hospital, Gusu School, Nanjing Medical University, Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, People's Republic of China.

Background: To evaluate the association of demographic and clinicopathological characteristics with the survival of patients with testicular mixed teratoma and seminoma (TMTS).

Methods: The data of 3296 eligible patients with TMTS who underwent surgery between 2010 and 2015 were obtained from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. Overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) were determined using the Kaplan-Meier survival curves.

Objective: Carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) serve as pivotal tumor markers in colorectal cancer (CRC). However, uncertainty persists regarding the prognostic significance of the two tumor markers when falling within the normal range. We attempt to compare the prognostic differences of tumor markers at different levels within the reference range.
