Background: The hypothalamus is involved in stress regulation and reward processing, with its various nuclei exhibiting unique functions and connections. However, human neuroimaging studies on the hypothalamic subregions are limited in drug addiction. This study examined the volumes and functional connectivity of hypothalamic subregions in individuals with alcohol use disorder (AUD).

Background: It is well known that dysfunction of thalamocortical circuity generates the motor signs that lead to distinct disease processes and prognoses in Parkinson's disease (PD). This study aimed to leverage ultrahigh-field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to identify the connectivity alterations of thalamocortical circuity and clarify their relation to motor signs in early PD.
Methods: Patients with early-stage PD (n=55) and healthy controls (HCs, n=56) were recruited from March 2022 to July 2023.

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) effectively treats motor symptoms of advanced Parkinson's disease (PD), with the globus pallidus interna (GPi) commonly targeted. However, its therapeutic mechanisms remain unclear. We employed optogenetic stimulation in the entopeduncular nucleus (EP), the rat homologue of GPi, in a unilateral 6-OHDA lesioned female Sprague Dawley rat model of PD.

Though ECT induces a generalized seizure, it is unclear why seizures are therapeutic. This study analyzed relationships between pre-treatment brain morphology, stimulation dose, and seizure duration to better understand ECT-induced seizures.

In vitro studies have shown that a neuron's electroresponsive properties can predispose it to oscillate at specific frequencies. In contrast, network activity in vivo can entrain neurons to rhythms that their biophysical properties do not predispose them to favor. However, there is limited information on the comparative frequency profile of unit entrainment across brain regions.
