The porous materials (PM) were prepared by the Pickering high internal phase emulsion (PHIPE) template. Firstly, the nanoparticles named as ZHMNPs or MZHMNPs were fabricated based on zein, Hohenbuehelia serotina polysaccharides and Malus baccata (Linn.) Borkh polyphenols without or with Maillard reaction, the average particle sizes and zeta potentials of which were distributed in a range of 718.1-979.4 nm and -21.6-25.2 mV. ZHMNPs possessed the relatively uniform spherical morphology, while MZHMNPs were irregular in shape. With ZHMNPs or MZHMNPs serving as the stabilizers, the PHIPEs were prepared, and exhibited the good viscoelasticity and excellent storage and freeze-thaw stabilities. Based on above PHIPEs template, the constructed PM possessed the large specific surface area and uniform pore structure. Through the investigations of adsorption performances, PM showed the outstanding adsorption capacities on Pb and Cu ions regardless of dissolving in deionized water or simulated gastrointestinal digestive fluid. Furthermore, the results also showed that the pH, temperature and adsorbent dosage had certain impacts on the adsorption performances of PM on Pb and Cu ions.

An europium metal organic framework (Eu-DBPA-Phen) was synthesized using 2,5-dibromoterephthalic acid (HDBPA) and 1-10-phenanthroline (Phen) as ligands. A straightforwardc quasi-ratiometric fluorescence probe was then developed for the detection of levofloxacin (LVF) by the simplistic combination of red-emitting Eu-DBPA-Phen and the inherent blue auto-fluorescence of the target. The probe exhibits the advantages of wide linear range (0.

Polymer nanocomposites with high concentrations of nanoparticles (NPs) possess exceptional mechanical, transport, and thermal properties. To enable their widespread use in structural applications and functional coatings, it is crucial to understand how nanoconfinement and the polymer-NP interface influence polymer degradation under various environmental conditions, including prolonged UV exposure. In this study, we investigate the photooxidative degradation of polystyrene (PS)-confined in the interstices of SiO NP films.

A novel electrochemiluminescence (ECL) biosensor was developed for the ultrasensitive detection of miRNA-155, based on the synergistic combination of multifunctional nanomaterials. The biosensor employed a conductive metal-organic framework (MOF), Ni(HAB) (HAB = hexaaminobenzene), as the substrate material. The unique π-electron conjugated structure of Ni(HAB) endowed the biosensor with excellent electron transport properties, significantly enhancing its sensitivity.

Transdermal drug delivery presents numerous advantages over conventional administration routes, including non-invasiveness, enhanced patient adherence, circumvention of hepatic first-pass metabolism, self-administration capabilities, controlled release, and increased bioavailability. Nevertheless, the barrier function of stratum corneum limits this strategy to molecules possessing requisite physicochemical attributes. To expand the field of transdermal delivery, researchers have pioneered physical enhancement techniques, with micron-sized needles emerging as a particularly promising platform for the transdermal and intradermal delivery of therapeutic agents across a spectrum of molecular sizes.

Mold remediation in homes after flooding.

J Allergy Clin Immunol Pract

Ochsner Health System, Department of Allergy/Immunology and Tulane University, School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Electronic address:

Flooding events, particularly those caused by hurricanes and other large storm events, are increasingly fueled by climate change. Stormwater intrusion into homes creates ideal conditions for mold growth. Homes inundated by floodwaters become vulnerable to production of mold spores, particulate matter, and volatile organic compounds, all of which trigger a variety of poor health outcomes.
