Cyclic voltammetry (CV) has been a powerful technique to provide impactful insights for electrochemical systems, including reaction mechanism, kinetics, diffusion coefficients, etc., in various fields of study, notably energy storage and energy conversion. However, the separation between the faradaic current component of CV and the nonfaradaic current contribution to extract useful information remains a major issue for researchers.

In this study, a molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensor (MIECS) was constructed based on the combination of graphene quantum dots-gold nanoparticles (GQDs-AuNPs), molecular imprinting polymer (MIP), and electrochemical technology for the ultra-sensitive detection of 17β-estradiol (E). GQDs-AuNPs were synthesized and modified on the surface of glassy carbon electrodes (GCE). Safranine T was used as the functional monomer and E was the template molecule for self-assembly and electropolymerization, thus generating an MIP film on the electrode surface.

Design of Double Strains in Triboelectric Nanogenerators toward Improving Human Behavior Monitoring.

Langmuir

January 2025

Anhui Key Laboratory of Sewage Purification and Eco-restoration Materials, School of Biology, Food and Environment, Hefei University, Hefei City 230601 China.

Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) offer a convenient means to convert mechanical energy from human movement into electricity, exhibiting the application prospects in human behavior monitoring. Nevertheless, the present methods to improve the device monitoring effect are limited to the design of a triboelectric material level (control of electron gain and loss ability). As compared with reported work, we improve the monitoring effect of TENG-based tactile sensors by optimizing the structure of the electrode/triboelectric material interface by means of a multiple strains mechanism.

In the present work, nitrogen-doped carbon was synthesized starting from a chitosan/urea mixture and immobilized at the surface of a bare glassy carbon electrode to detect Cd(II) ions using differential pulse-anodic stripping voltammetry method (DP-ASV). The synthesized nitrogen-doped carbon showed a significant potential for determining Cd(II) ions. Doping carbon with nitrogen atoms gives a structure with increased valence band energy, leading to acceleration of the electron transfer by creating an interaction of nitrogen's free electrons with Cd(II), which subsequently increases the peak current value.

Antiferromagnetic semimetal terahertz photodetectors enhanced through weak localization.

Nat Commun

January 2025

State Key Laboratory for Infrared Physics, Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Yutian Road 500, Shanghai, 200083, China.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the terahertz detection capabilities of the two-dimensional antiferromagnetic semimetal NbFeTe, highlighting its unique properties.
  • The interaction of antiferromagnetic moments and electron spins leads to a nonlinear increase in the material's responsivity as temperatures drop, facilitated by the use of asymmetric electrodes.
  • The NbFeTe₂/graphene heterojunction achieves impressive performance metrics, indicating its potential for high-speed imaging in terahertz applications.
