Dysregulation of GABAergic inhibition is associated with pathological pain. Consequently, enhancement of GABAergic transmission represents a potential analgesic strategy. However, therapeutic potential of current GABA agonists and modulators is limited by unwanted side effects.

Optimizing Low-Dose [18F]FDG-PET/CT Scans: Ensuring Quality Amid Radiotracer Availability Challenges - Insights from a Peripheral Tertiary Care Center.

Indian J Nucl Med

November 2024

Department of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Cancer Centre, Tata Memorial Centre, Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), Varanasi, India.

Background: The introduction of positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) has significantly advanced medical imaging. In oncology, F-fluorodeoxyglucose (F-FDG) PET/CT is particularly crucial for staging, evaluating treatment response, monitoring follow-up, and planning radiotherapy. However, in resource limiting hospitals, the availability of fluorine-labeled F-FDG limits optimal scan acquisition.

Exercise promotes peripheral glycolysis in skeletal muscle through miR-204 induction via the HIF-1α pathway.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Laboratory of Biochemistry, College of Veterinary Medicine, Chungnam National University, 99 Daehak-Ro, Yuseong-Gu, Daejeon, 34134, Korea.

The mechanisms underlying exercise-induced insulin sensitization are of great interest, as exercise is a clinically critical intervention for diabetic patients. Some microRNAs (miRs) are secreted from skeletal muscle after exercise where they regulate insulin sensitivity, and have potential as diagnostic markers in diabetic patients. miR-204 is well-known for its involvement in development, cancer, and metabolism; however, its role in exercise-induced glycemic control remains unclear.

Electronic address:

Background: Intravenous (IV) access is often required for the treatment of vaso-occlusive crises in patients with sickle cell disease, but can be particularly challenging due to recurrent venous damage. The AccuVein® device, uses near-infrared light technology to visualise veins for easier venepuncture.

Methods: A randomised, controlled trial of the efficacy of the AccuVeinAV400® device in the replacement of peripheral venous lines during a vaso-occlusive crisis was conducted at two centres in France.

Method for measuring cervical vagal nerve activity in conscious rats.

Am J Physiol Endocrinol Metab

January 2025

Autonomic Physiology Laboratory, Faculty of Life Science and Human Technology, Nara Women's University, Kita-Uoya Nishimachi, Nara, 630-8506, Japan.

The current study aimed to propose a method to directly measure right cervical vagal nerve activity (cVNA) alongside renal sympathetic nerve activity (RSNA) in conscious rats. The right cervical vagus nerve was surgically exposed and fitted with a bipolar electrode to record cVNA. A microcatheter was used to administer levobupivacaine to selectively block afferent cVNA.
