is a small family of polypores and hydnoid fungi in the order (). The family consists of white-rot fungi, some of which are serious tree pathogens. Combining morphological evidence with a phylogenetic dataset of six genetic markers, we revise generic concepts in the family and propose a seven-genus classification system for the family. Two genera are introduced as new: the monotypic for , and for the complex. We re-introduce the name for the complex. Other recognized genera in the family are , and . New species introduced are from Tanzania, and from Southeast Asia, and from East Asia. We provide nomenclatural comments on all the names combined to the above genera and typify , , (= ), , and . The genus belongs to (), and we transfer the type species to . Our study highlights the importance of integrating different basidiocarp types in analyses when revising genus classification in macrofungi. Genome-based analysis allows for large-scale classification of diverse bacteria and has been widely adopted for delineating species. Unfortunately, for higher taxonomic ranks such as genus, establishing a generally accepted approach based on genome analysis is challenging. While core-genome phylogenies depict the evolutionary relationships among species, determining the correspondence between clades and genera may not be straightforward.

Molecular diversity of black corals from the Saudi Arabian Red Sea: a first assessment.

Invertebr Syst

April 2024

Marine Science Program, Biological and Environmental Science and Engineering Division, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Thuwal, Saudi Arabia; and Division of Biological and Environmental Science and Engineering, Red Sea Research Center, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Thuwal, 23955, Saudi Arabia.

Black corals occur as part of benthic assemblages from shallow to deep waters in all oceans. Despite the importance in many benthic ecosystems, where these act as biodiversity aggregators, antipatharians remain poorly studied, with 75% of the known species occurring below recreational SCUBA diving depth limits. Currently, information regarding the diversity and evolutionary history is limited, with most studies focusing on Hawaii and the South Pacific Ocean.

The role of 16S rRNA has been and largely remains crucial for the identification of microbial organisms. Although 16S rRNA could certainly be described as one of the most studied sequences ever, the current view of it remains somewhat ambiguous. While some consider 16S rRNA to be a variable marker with resolution power down to the strain level, others consider them to be living fossils that carry information about the origin of domains of cellular life.

Reassessment of the Phylogenetics of Two Pygmy Grasshopper Generic Groups and through Mitochondrial Phylogenomics Using Four New Mitochondrial Genome Assemblies.

Mitochondrial genomes offer pragmatic genetic markers to reconstruct evolutionary relationships and inform taxonomic classifications. Here, we present complete mitochondrial sequences for four Chinese pygmy grasshoppers (Tetrigidae), aiming to reevaluate phylogenetic patterns and morphological taxonomy. Our 17,643 bp, 16,274 bp, 15,086 bp, and 15,398 bp mitogenomes of , , and , respectively, exhibit archetypal Tetrigidae architecture.

L. is a pantropically distributed genus comprised of at least 250 species of shrubs and trees and has centers of diversity located in Africa/Madagascar, Australasia, and Southeast Asia. The genus is notable due to its extreme diversity of floral form, common presence in lowland tropical rainforests worldwide, and potential pharmacological value.
