Limited evidences have shown that early-life PFOS exposure holds a potential risk for developing age-related neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease later in life. Background: Although combat-deployed soldiers are at a high risk for developing trauma-related psychopathology, most will remain resilient for the duration and aftermath of their deployment tour. The neural basis of this type of resilience is largely unknown, and few longitudinal studies exist on neural adaptation to combat in resilient individuals for whom a pre-exposure measurement was collected. Here, we delineate changes in the architecture of functional brain networks from pre- to post-combat in psychopathology-free, resilient participants.

Background: First responders are at high risk for adverse mental health outcomes following trauma exposure during disaster response. This mixed methods study aimed to quantify psychological impacts and explore personal experiences among first responders after the Bahanaga train accident that killed 294 passengers in the month of June 2023.
Methods: For qualitative data, in-depth interviews (IDIs) were conducted, and quantitative data was collected using the PTSD checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5), generalized anxiety disorder scale (GAD-7), and patient health questionnaire (PHQ-9) for symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and anxiety.

Objective: The Adult Scale/National Stressful Events Survey Short Scale (NSESSS) is an emerging brief screening measure for the severity of Acute Stress Symptoms based on the of acute stress disorder (ASD). Scant information is known about the NSESSS's psychometric properties among different cultures or populations exposed to an ongoing trauma and displacement. Therefore, the present study aimed to (a) assess for the first time the psychometric properties and construct validity of the Hebrew version of NSESSS in an internally displaced population following the massacre in Israel on October 7, 2023; and (b) assess the possible risk and protective predictors of ASD according to sociodemographic characteristics, types of trauma exposure, absence of basic needs, and social support.

Background: Acute psychosocial stress activates the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and triggers the release of cortisol, a commonly used biomarker of stress reactivity. Yet only 25 % of studies have reported a correlation between cortisol and affective responses to stress. This study aimed to examine whether cortisol reactivity following an acute psychosocial stressor in the laboratory correlated with concurrent positive and negative affect in adolescents, and whether early life adversity (ELA) moderated this relationship.
