HLA-G Polymorphisms of The 3'-UTR Region Are Involved in Susceptibility to Non-Infectious Uveitis.

Ocul Immunol Inflamm

January 2025

Departamento de Inmunología, Oftalmología y ORL, Facultad de Medicina, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Madrid, Spain.

Purpose: HLA-G is a non-classical HLA class I gene encoding a molecule endowed with immunomodulatory properties, playing important immunosuppressive and tolerogenic roles in immuno-privileged organs. Fluctuations in its expression levels have been correlated with the predisposition to autoinflammatory disorders, notably uveitis, characterized by inflammation of the uvea. In the present work, DNA was obtained from saliva samples of 147 Spanish patients with uveitis, with subsequent analysis focusing on the distribution of polymorphisms within the 3'UTR region of the gene (a region known to modulate the expression of the HLA-G molecule).

Anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitides (AAV) represent a heterogeneous multisystem group of disorders typified by necrotising inflammation of smaller blood vessels, classically yielding a pauci-immune, crescentic glomerulonephritis. Without prompt treatment, there is a significant risk of irreversible damage and ensuing renal impairment.Diagnosis is often challenging, exacerbated by the disorder's often vague and insidious presentation.

A pupil called Worry: Mydriasis in orbital surgery.

Clin Neurol Neurosurg

January 2025

Department of Ophthalmology, University Hospitals Leuven, Leuven, Belgium; Department of Neurosciences, Catholic University Leuven, Leuven, Belgium. Electronic address:

Objective: Surgeons routinely check the pupils to assess, in part, the brain stem function and the neural integrity of the visual system. Where a relative afferent pupillary defect is difficult to notice during surgery, an efferent pupillary defect or mydriasis is clearly recognizable. Visual loss in orbital surgery is attributed to compromised perfusion of the optic nerve, retina, or choroid, but an association with mydriasis is generally not assumed.

We conducted two experiments to examine the lexical and sub-lexical processing of Chinese two-character words in reading. We used a co-registration electroencephalogram (EEG) for the first fixation on target words. In Experiment 1, whole-word occurrence frequency and initial constituent character frequency were orthogonally manipulated, while in Experiment 2, whole-word occurrence frequency and end constituent character frequency were orthogonally manipulated.

This study aimed to assess the changes in the position and size of articular spaces and anteroposterior and mediolateral condyle dimensions following orthognathic surgery. Additionally, it evaluated the correlation between these changes and mandibular movement during surgery. This experimental study examined 31 patients (16 with Class III and 15 with Class II malocclusions) who were candidates for orthognathic surgery.
