Considering practical viability, Li-metal battery electrolytes should be formulated by tuning solvent composition similar to electrolyte systems for Li-ion batteries to enable the facile salt-dissociation, ion-conduction, and introduction of sacrificial additives for building stable electrode-electrolyte interfaces. Although 1,2-dimethoxyethane with a high-donor number enables the implementation of ionic compounds as effective interface modifiers, its ubiquitous usage is limited by its low-oxidation durability and high-volatility. Regulation of the solvation structure and construction of well-structured interfacial layers ensure the potential strength of electrolytes in both Li-metal and LiNiCoMnO (NCM811). This study reports the build-up of multilayer solid-electrolyte interphase by utilizing different electron-accepting tendencies of lithium difluoro(bisoxalato) phosphate (LiDFBP), lithium nitrate, and synthetic 1-((trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl)piperidine. Furthermore, a well-structured cathode-electrolyte interface from LiDFBP effectively addresses the issues with NCM811. The developed electrolyte based on a framework of highly- and weakly-solvating solvents with interface modifiers enables the operation of Li|NCM811 cells with a high areal capacity cathode (4.3 mAh cm) at 4.4 V versus Li/Li.

Light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) are promising candidates for fully solution-processed lighting applications because they can comprise a single active-material layer and air-stable electrodes. While their performance is often claimed to be independent of the electrode material selection due to the in situ formation of electric double layers (EDLs), we demonstrate conceptually and experimentally that this understanding needs to be modified. Specifically, the exciton generation zone is observed to be affected by the electrode work function.

An exceedingly porous and interwoven fibrous structure was achieved in this study by interlocking titanium carbide (TiC) MXenes onto the electrospun mats using poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) as the base polymer. The fibrous membrane was further modified with the inclusion of zinc oxide (ZnO) and tungstite (WO·HO) nano/microstructures via annealing and hydrothermal approaches. Through these strategic interfaced morphological developments in novel TiC/ZnO/WO·HO heterostructures, our findings reveal enhanced wettability and charge-segregation desirable for promoting oil-water separation and photoreactivity, respectively.

Poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)-based solid-state polymer electrolyte (SPE) is a promising candidate for the next generation of safer lithium-metal batteries. However, the serious side reaction between PEO and lithium metal and the uneven deposition of lithium ions lead to the growth of lithium dendrites and the rapid decline of battery cycle life. Building a LiF-rich solid electrolyte interface (SEI) layer is considered to be an effective means to solve the above problems.

The discovery of ferroelectric phases in HfO-based films has reignited interest in ferroelectrics and their application in resistive switching (RS) devices. This study investigates the pivotal role of electrodes in facilitating the Schottky-to-Ohmic transition (SOT) observed in devices consisting of ultrathin epitaxial ferroelectric HfYO (YHO) films deposited on LaSrMnO-buffered Nb-doped SrTiO (NbSTO|LSMO) with Ti|Au top electrodes. These findings indicate combined filamentary RS and ferroelectric switching occurs in devices with designed electrodes, having an ON/OFF ratio of over 100 during about 10 cycles.

This study explores whether labeling AI as either "trustworthy" or "reliable" influences user perceptions and acceptance of automotive AI technologies. Utilizing a one-way between-subjects design, the research presented online participants (N = 478) with a text presenting guidelines for either trustworthy or reliable AI, before asking them to evaluate 3 vignette scenarios and fill in a modified version of the Technology Acceptance Model which covers different variables, such as perceived ease of use, human-like trust, and overall attitude. While labeling AI as "trustworthy" did not significantly influence people's judgements on specific scenarios, it increased perceived ease of use and human-like trust, namely benevolence, suggesting a facilitating influence on usability and an anthropomorphic effect on user perceptions.
