A new myxomycete species, , was reported herein. The specimens were found and collected in the field on dead bark from Jingangtai National Geopark in Henan Province of China. This species has distinct and unique morphological characteristics, including dark grayish olive sporothecae that fade to smoke gray with age, shallow saucer-shaped cups with marked reticulations and thick papillae on the inner surface, a netted capillitium with many bulges, uniformly marked with low, dense, and irregular reticulations, and spores (8.0-)9.3-10.1(-10.9) μm in diameter, marked with sparse small warts and grouped prominent warts. Apart from a comprehensive morphological study, partial sequences of the nuclear 18S rDNA and elongation factor-1 alpha () genes were also provided in this study. This new species was described and illustrated morphologically. The specimens are deposited in the Herbarium of Fungi of Nanjing Normal University (HFNNU).

During the trophic period of myxomycetes, the plasmodia of myxomycetes can perform crawling feeding and phagocytosis of bacteria, fungi, and organic matter. Culture-based studies have suggested that plasmodia are associated with one or several species of bacteria; however, by amplicon sequencing, it was shown that up to 31-52 bacteria species could be detected in one myxomycete, suggesting that the bacterial diversity associated with myxomycetes was likely to be underestimated. To fill this gap and characterize myxomycetes' microbiota and functional traits, the diversity and functional characteristics of microbiota associated with the plasmodia of six myxomycetes species were investigated by metagenomic sequencing.

Myxomycete communities in forests and the influence of substrates and seasons on myxomycete diversity were studied. In total, 80 substrates (40 living barks and 40 litters) were collected from the sample site in winter, spring, summer and autumn of 2023, followed by moist chamber cultures.
