The structure of coal seam fractures is the main physical property of coalbed methane reservoir evaluation, and the complex resistivity method is a potential geophysical evaluation method for coal seam fractures. In this study, cylindrical coal samples with axial directions perpendicular to the bedding, face cleat, and butt cleat were prepared. The complex electrical parameters of the loaded specimens were tested with test frequencies ranging from 1 Hz to 10 kHz. The complex electrical response characteristics of the loaded coal are summarized, and the control mechanism of the main fracture system structure is analyzed. The results indicated that (1) as the loading pressure increased, the resistance and the absolute values of reactance (||) gradually decreased, especially in the frequency band where slowly decreased and the characteristic frequency of , the decreased amplitude was more significant, and the cutoff frequency of and the characteristic frequency of all gradually increased. (2) The complex electrical properties of coal show obvious anisotropic characteristics. Both and || decreased sequentially according to the direction perpendicular to the bedding, face cleat, and butt cleat; the cutoff frequency of and the characteristic frequency of all increased sequentially. (3) The dispersion phenomenon of the complex electrical properties of coal is attributed to the induced polarization; the elevated loading stress enhances the polarization effects of the molecular-induced moments of the coal skeleton, and the anisotropic difference of the complex electrical properties is due to the difficulty in the degree of transport of charged particles induced by structural differences of the main fracture system. (4) The resistance and capacitance were selected as the complex electrically sensitive parameters of the loaded coal orthogonal fracture structures. A logarithmic inversion model reflecting the main fracture system structure of coal was constructed. This provides a certain theoretical basis for efficient electrical exploration of coal reservoir fracture structures.

EEG involves recording electrical activity generated by the brain through electrodes placed on the scalp. Imagined speech classification has emerged as an essential area of research in brain-computer interfaces (BCIs). Despite significant advances, accurately classifying imagined speech signals remains challenging due to their complex and non-stationary nature.

Integrating large language models (LLMs) into health care holds substantial potential to enhance clinical workflows and care delivery. However, LLMs also pose serious risks if integration is not thoughtfully executed, with complex challenges spanning accuracy, accessibility, privacy, and regulation. Proprietary commercial LLMs (eg, GPT-4 [OpenAI], Claude 3 Sonnet and Claude 3 Opus [Anthropic], Gemini [Google]) have received much attention from researchers in the medical domain, including radiology.

Adaptive focusing for wideband beamforming in multipath environments.

Electrical and Computer Engineering, Duke University, Durham, North Carolina 27704, USA.

This paper addresses achieving the high time-bandwidth product necessary for low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) target detection and localization in complex multipath environments. Time bandwidth product is often limited by dynamic environments and platform maneuvers. This paper introduces data-driven wideband focusing methods for passive sonar that optimize parameterized unitary matrices to align signal subspaces across the frequency band without relying on wave propagation models which are subject to mismatch in complex multipath environments.

This study aimed to elucidate the complexity of the humoral immune response in COVID-19 patients with varying disease trajectories using a SARS-CoV-2 whole proteome peptide microarray chip. The microarray, containing 5347 peptides spanning the entire SARS-CoV-2 proteome and key variants of concern, was used to analyze IgG responses in 10 severe-to-recovered, 9 nonsevere-to-severe cases, and 10 control case (5 pre-pandemic and 5 SARS-CoV-2-negative) plasma samples. We identified 1151 IgG-reactive peptides corresponding to 647 epitopes, with 207 peptides being cross-reactive across 124 epitopes.

Division of Physical Sciences, College of Letters and Science, University of California Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California 90095, United States.

Defect emitters in silicon are promising contenders as building blocks of solid-state quantum repeaters and sensor networks. Here, we investigate a family of possible isoelectronic emitter defect complexes from a design standpoint. We show that the identification of key physical effects on quantum defect state localization can guide the search for telecom-wavelength emitters.
