Cerebral perfusion correlates with amyloid deposition in patients with mild cognitive impairment due to Alzheimer's disease.

J Prev Alzheimers Dis

February 2025

Department of Neurology, Tianjin Neurological Institute, Tianjin Medical University General Hospital, Tianjin, China, 154 Anshan Road Tianjin 300052, PR China; Department of Neurology, Tianjin Medical University General Hospital Airport Site, Tianjin 300052, PR China. Electronic address:

Background: Changes in cerebral blood flow (CBF) may contribute to the initial stages of the pathophysiological process in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD). Hypoperfusion has been observed in several brain regions in patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). However, the clinical significance of CBF changes in the early stages of AD is currently unclear.

Fabrication of Ag based Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering substrates with periodic mask arrays by electron beam deposition.

Anal Chim Acta

February 2025

Engineering Research Center of Optical Instrument and System, Ministry of Education and Shanghai Key Lab of Modern Optical System, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, No.516 Jungong Road, Shanghai, 200093, China.

Background: Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) has attracted much attention as a powerful detection and analysis tool with high sensitivity and fast detection speed. The intensity of the SERS signal mainly depended on the highly enhanced electromagnetic field of nanostructure near the substrate. However, the fabrication of high-quality SERS nanostructured substrates is usually complicated, makes many methods unsuitable for large-scale production of SERS substrates.

Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is an intermediate state between normal aging and dementia, and its symptoms include easy forgetting, distraction, and mental deterioration. This directly affects the patient's motor function, daily living ability, and social adaptability, and brings many difficulties to the patient's reintegration into society. Therefore, clinical research on MCI is very necessary.

Selected Mechanisms of Action of Bacteriophages in Bacterial Infections in Animals.

Viruses

January 2025

Department of Veterinary Prevention and Avian Diseases, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Life Sciences in Lublin, 20-033 Lublin, Poland.

Bacteriophages, as ubiquitous bacterial viruses in various natural ecosystems, play an important role in maintaining the homeostasis of the natural microbiota. For many years, bacteriophages were not believed to act on eukaryotic cells; however, recent studies have confirmed their ability to affect eukaryotic cells and interact with the host immune system. Due to their complex protein structure, phages can also directly or indirectly modulate immune processes, including innate immunity, by modulating phagocytosis and cytokine reactions, as well as acquired immunity, by producing antibodies and activating effector cells.

Mass vaccination against peste des petits ruminants (PPR) in two southern states of India, namely Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, has reduced disease outbreaks significantly. The sporadic outbreaks reported now can be attributed in part to the recurring movement of sheep and goats between these contiguous states. This study assessed the present level of economic burden and impact of vaccination on the local system (one state), considering the exposure from the external system (neighboring state) using a system dynamic (SD) model.
