Purpose Of Review: Development of vaccines that protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including for chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis, has progressed greatly over the past decade. Trends and cost structure of drug-based secondary prevention of ischemic strokes.

Neurol Res Pract

January 2025

Goethe University Frankfurt, University Hospital, Department of Neurology, Schleusenweg 2-16, 60528, Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

Background: Advances in secondary stroke prevention, including direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs), dual antiplatelet therapies (DAPT), and cardiovascular risk management, have changed costs over the past decade. This study aimed to evaluate annual treatment costs and trends in drug-based secondary prophylaxis after ischemic strokes.

Establishing, evaluating and monitoring analytical quality in the traceability era.

Crit Rev Clin Lab Sci

January 2025

Department of Laboratory Medicine, Ludwik Rydygier Collegium Medicum in Bydgoszcz, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, Bydgoszcz, Torun, Poland.

Poor analytical quality may be the bane of medical use of laboratory tests, and the fight against excessive analytical variability presents a daily struggle. Laboratories should prioritize the perspectives and needs of their customers (the patients and healthcare personnel). Among them, comparability of results from the same patient sample when measured by different laboratories using different diagnostic (IVD) medical devices is a logical priority to avoid result misinterpretation and potential patient harm.

Gender-specific effects of delay in cardiology consultation following primary care physician referral in atrial fibrillation patients: Impact on one-year outcomes.

Int J Cardiol

December 2024

Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red-Enfermedades Cardiovasculares (CIBERCV), Av. Monforte de Lemos, 3-5. Pabellón 11. Planta 0 28029, Madrid, Spain; Servicio de Cardiología, Complejo Hospitalario Universitario de Santiago de Compostela, PC 15706, Choupana s/n, Santiago de Compostela, A Coruña, Spain; Medicine Department, Santiago de Compostela University. San Francisco Street, PC 15701, Santiago de Compostela, Spain.

Background And Objectives: Over the last two decades, reductions in cardiovascular (CV) and cerebrovascular events for patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) have been observed, but the non-cardiovascular rates have increased. Early initiation of oral anticoagulation helps reduce AF complications; however, the impact of delayed cardiology care after referral by a Primary Care Physician (PCP) is unknown. The aim of our study is to investigate the association between the elapsed time to cardiology care following a PCP referral and one-year outcomes among patients with AF and analyses gender-specific differences in these outcomes.
