Activated protein C (APC) was shown to release extracellular vesicles (EVs). APC bound to the EVs was thought to be responsible for cytoprotection. Our study demonstrates that the cytoprotective effects of APC-released EVs are independent of APC. APC-released EVs carry anti-inflammatory microRNAs in their cargo.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death worldwide, and effectively repairing the heart following myocardial injuries remains a significant challenge. Research has increasingly shown that exosomes derived from mesenchymal stem cells (MSC-Exo) can ameliorate myocardial injuries and improve outcomes after such injuries. The therapeutic benefits of MSC-Exo are largely due to their capacity to deliver specific cargo, including microRNAs and proteins.

Sestrin2 (SESN2) is a stress-inducible protein known for its cytoprotective functions, but its role in diabetic vascular complications remains unclear. This study investigated the impact of SESN2 on methylglyoxal (MGO)-induced endothelial-mesenchymal transition (EndMT). Human endothelial cells were transfected with SESN2 siRNA duplexes to silence SESN2 expression, followed by MGO treatment.

Alkaptonuria (AKU) is a genetically determined disease associated with disorders of tyrosine metabolism. In AKU, the deposition of homogentisic acid polymers contributes to the pathological ossification of cartilage tissue. The controlled use of biomimetics similar to deposits observed in cartilage during AKU potentially may serve the development of new bone regeneration therapy based on the activation of osteoblasts.

Red millet yellow wine, a functional beverage fermented from grain, has physiological functions including relieving cardiovascular diseases. However, the active components and mechanism of red millet yellow wine largely remain to be elucidated. In this study, bioactive peptides in red millet yellow wine and the cardiac cytoprotective effects were first investigated.

Cervical cancer is a global health problem; therapies focused on eliminating tumour cells and strengthening different immunotherapies are in development. However, it has been observed that cervical tumour cells can evade cell death mechanisms and generate immune system molecules to promote their proliferation and metastasis. In this context, we analysed the role of the IL-2 and CD95 pathways, essential molecules in activating the immune system and eliminating tumour cells.
