Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Burke Neurological Institute, Weill Cornell Medicine, White Plains, NY, USA.

Background: Benfotiamine, a prodrug of thiamine, raises blood levels by 50-100 times to achieve pharmacologic effects. It provides a novel therapeutic direction addressing a well-characterized brain tissue thiamine deficiency and related changes in glucose metabolism in AD. BenfoTeam is a seamless phase 2A-2B "proof of concept" (POC), double-blind, placebo-controlled RCT investigating tolerability, safety, and efficacy of benfotiamine, as a first-in-class small molecule treatment for early AD.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Quality Compliance Systems, High Wycombe, NA, United Kingdom.

Background: An important aspect of quality of life is engagement in meaningful and purposeful activities. The aging population has led to a global issue of osteoarthritis (OA), which not only impacts the quality of life for patients but also poses a significant economic burden on society. While biotherapy offers hope for OA treatment, currently available treatments are unable to delay or prevent the onset or progression of OA. Recent studies have shown that as nanoscale bioactive substances that mediate cell communication, exosomes from stem cell sources have led to some breakthroughs in the treatment of OA and have important clinical significance.

Background: Recently, autologous cultured fibroblast and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapies have been attempted for skin rejuvenation. Unlike PRP, grafted fibroblasts not only produce connective tissue but also influence the surrounding environment through a paracrine effect. Fibroblast-derived cytokines interact with and are modulated by neighboring tissue-constituting cells.
