The article's main aim is to assess the mechanical behaviour of linden under high-rate loadings (impact) and its change due to changes in moisture content (MC) over fibre saturation point. For assessing the mechanical properties of green wood, mainly the data of the dried wood is not applicable since the moisture content can drastically affect the mechanical properties of the wood. By testing both dried and high-moisture-content wood, we can understand a general viewpoint toward the effect of the moisture content on the impact behaviour of the wood. Several test samples were made of linden wood with different moisture content levels of 11%, 60% and 160%. A drop-weight impact machine tested the specimens to measure the reaction force of the hammer during a very short impact period. The results of the tests were parameters such as force-time chart, the maximum force required for crack initiation, the impact bending strength (IBS) and the work needed for crack initiation. The results indicated an increase in MC decreases the maximum force, work required for crack initiation and IBS drastically. However, when MC exceeded the fibre saturation point (FSP), there was no further influence on the force pattern and maximum required force.

Physical properties were studied in commercial plantation of balsa established in Costa Rica. Among other variables studied, physical properties varied mainly for tree age, spacing, stand density, diameter, and height of trees, which we named dasometric conditions. The aim of this study was (i) to determine the variation of specific gravity (SG), air-dry density (AD), green density (GD), and green moisture content (GMC), (ii) to know the site effect and dasometric conditions on these properties, and (iii) to establish the relationship between the four physical properties.

This article evaluated different production strategies, characteristics, and applications of biochar for ameliorating soil fertility and microbial diversity. The biochar production techniques are evolving, indicating that newer methods (including hydrothermal and retort carbonization) operate with minimum temperatures, yet resulting in high yields with significant improvements in different properties, including heating value, oxygen functionality, and carbon content, compared to the traditional methods. It has been found that the temperature, feedstock type, and moisture content play critical roles in the fabrication process.

This study aims to establish a quality grading standard that combines the conventional quality evaluation based on morphological characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine with the modern quality evaluation. Based on the existing standards and market circulation of Isatidis Radix, the diameter and color of Isatidis Radix decoction pieces were selected as the appearance traits for preliminary grading. The effects of internal quality indexes such as moisture, total ash, acid-insoluble ash, ethanol-soluble extractives, and 9 water-soluble components on different grades of decoction pieces were comprehensively compared, and the key grading indexes were determined by t-test.
