Background: This study aimed to compare the effect of different obturation techniques with root canal sealers on the residual filling material after retreatment using SEM.

Material And Method: Sixty (60) single rooted mandibular premolars were selected and instrumented with rotary files using the Mtwo system up to file size 30/.05 taper. The samples were randomly divided to two groups based on the type of sealer and three sub-groups (n=10) based on the obturating technique used. The root fillings were removed using the PTUR system files and the specimens were longitudinally sectioned while digital images were obtained from the root canals with SEM. The time required to reach working lenght were recorded.

Results: There was no difference in terms of the smear score when comparing both sealer and obturation technique groups in the apical third. Smear scores were significantly affected by the type of sealer and obturation technique in the medium and coronal thirds of root canals (p<0.05). Higher smear scores were obtained with GFB than AH Plus (p<0.05). The time required to reach working length with GFB was longer than AH Plus (p<0.05).

Conclusion: Residual filling material was observed in all samples, regardless of the root canal sealer or the obturation technique used. There was a significantly lower smear scores in the AH Plus groups as compared to the GFB.

3D printing in palliative medicine: systematic review.

BMJ Support Palliat Care

December 2024

Health Research Institute, School of Design, and Confirm Smart Manufacturing Centre, University of Limerick, Limerick, Ireland

Background: Three-dimensional printing (3DP) enables the production of highly customised, cost-efficient devices in a relatively short time, which can be particularly valuable to clinicians treating patients with palliative care intent who are in need of timely and effective solutions in the management of their patients' specific needs, including the relief of distressing symptoms.

Method: Four online databases were searched for articles published by December 2020 that described studies using 3DP in palliative care. The fields of application, and the relevant clinical and technological data were extracted and analysed.

Comparative Analysis of Fracture Resistance of Endodontic Sealer Types and Filling Methods.

Materials (Basel)

December 2024

Department of Advanced General Dentistry, College of Dentistry, Yonsei University, Seoul 03722, Republic of Korea.

With the advent of bioceramic sealers, sealers have become a more important filling material for endodontic treatment. When a solid sealer, rather than an elastic gutta-percha, occupies a significant portion of the root canal, it is unclear whether the tooth structure will be strengthened to withstand stress or whether the increased stiffness will transmit the load directly to the entire root, potentially causing root fracture. This study compared the fracture resistance and fracture patterns of roots filled with various root canal sealers, including bioceramic sealers, and each corresponding filling technique.

Background: Local relapse has not been eradicated even in the era of total mesorectum excision. Although various approaches have been attempted, R0 resection remains the only potentially curative treatment. Comparative Evaluation of Obturation Quality Using Three Different Obturation Techniques in Primary Teeth: A Conebeam Computed Tomography Analysis: Study.

Int J Clin Pediatr Dent

November 2024

Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, Haldia Institute of Dental Sciences and Research, West Bengal University of Health Sciences, Kolkata, West Bengal, India.

Context: Pulpectomy is recommended for primary teeth when both the coronal and radicular pulp tissues are irreversibly damaged. Biomechanical preparation of root canals is essential for the success of endodontic treatment. Achieving the optimal length during obturation while minimizing voids and ensuring a hermetic seal is crucial for the success of pulpectomy procedures.
