In this comprehensive study, we evaluated the feasibility of using hydrogen instead of helium as a carrier gas in a GC-MS/MS system for pesticide residue analysis, spanning three matrices: pepper, tomato, and zucchini. Initial assessments focused on the ion source's chemical inertness, employing nitrobenzene as a benchmark to monitor the hydrogenation process. A method with a duration of less than 12 minutes was developed, achieving good chromatographic peak resolution attributable to the enhanced chromatographic performance of hydrogen as a carrier gas. The study emphasized the optimization of system parameters, testing various ion source temperatures, detector voltages, and injection volumes. Sensitivity assessments, based on the DG-SANTE criteria, indicated that the majority of compounds were identifiable at a concentration of 5 μg kg (81% in tomato, 84% in pepper and 73% in zucchini). Detailed validation for reproducibility, matrix effects, and linearity across 150 pesticides unveiled generally favorable outcomes, with a notable majority of compounds displaying low matrix effects, satisfactory linearity ranges and good reproducibility with most compounds returning a relative standard deviation (RSD) below 10%. When applied to 15 real samples, the hydrogen-based system's performance was juxtaposed against a helium-based counterpart, revealing that results are very comparable between both systems. This comparative approach highlights hydrogen's potential as a reliable and efficient carrier gas in pesticide residue analysis for routine food control laboratories, overcoming difficulties resulting from the lack of helium supplies.

Petroleum hydrocarbon pollutants in soil are challenging to biodegrade, negatively impacting plant growth as well as the metabolic activity and community structure of soil microorganisms. Microorganisms immobilized by seed carriers can synergistically contribute to the remediation of petroleum hydrocarbon-contaminated soil. We prepared a rape seed carrier with immobilized microorganism by seed coating (with a mixture of diatomaceous earth and bentonite as fillers) and microbial immobilization.

investigations on hydrodynamic phonon transport: From diffusion to convection.

In classical theory, heat conduction in solids is regarded as a diffusion process driven by a temperature gradient, whereas fluid transport is understood as convection process involving the bulk motion of the liquid or gas. In the framework of theory, which is directly built upon quantum mechanics without relying on measured parameters or phenomenological models, we observed and investigated the fluid-like convective transport of energy carriers in solid heat conduction. Thermal transport, carried by phonons, is simulated in graphite by solving the Boltzmann transport equation using a Monte Carlo algorithm.

Rationale: Data are required for SIFT-MS analysis of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which are persistent in the environment and cause adverse health effects. Specifically, the rate coefficients and product ion branching ratios of the reactions of HO, NO, O •, O•, OH, O •, NO and NO with PFAS vapours are needed.

Methods: The dual polarity SIFT-MS instrument (Voice200) was used to generate these eight reagent ions and inject them into the flow tube with N carrier gas at a temperature of 393 K.

Effective intratumoral distribution of anticancer agents with good tumor penetration is of great practical importance for oncotherapy. How to break the limitation of traditional passive drug delivery relying on blood circulatory system into solid tumors remains a challenge. Herein, a light-directed self-powered nanorobot based on zirconium-based porphyrin metal-organic framework (MOF) is reported for smart delivery of chemodrug and photosensitizer for deep tumor penetration.

Electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOPs) are energy-efficient methods for generating activated radicals like HO and SO, which enable the degradation of difficult-to-mineralize chlorinated organic compounds. This study explored the catalytic activity and reaction mechanism of EAOPs under a dual strategy involving non-metal doped CN (X@CN (X = O, F, Si)) and a heterostructured build(X@CN/TiCT) using first principles calculation. The non-metal doping and the heterojunction construction can make HO and PMS spontaneously adsorb (E< 0), with negative Gibbs free energy for their oxidation to HO and SO, significantly enhancing catalytic activity.
