Despite the many studies carried out over the past decade to determine the biodegradation performance of magnesium and its alloys, few studies focused on the effect of altered surface area to volume ratio on and degradation rate and osteogenesis. Here, high purity magnesium cylindrical rods with gradient of surface area to volume ratio were processed by excavating different numbers of grooves on the side surface. The immersion test in SBF solution and the rat femoral condylar bone defect model were used to evaluate the degradation of magnesium rods and , respectively. We demonstrated that, the increased number of grooves on the HP magnesium surface represented a decrease in the percentage of residual volume over time, not necessarily an increase in absolute degradation volume or a regular change in corrosion rate. Furthermore, there were strong linear correlations between the relative degradation volume and the initial surface-to-volume ratio of HP magnesium rods both and . The difference in the slope of this relationship and might help to determine the possible range of degradation rates data. In addition, the corrosion rate is more suitable for evaluating bone formation surrounding the different HP magnesium rods. Our findings in this work may facilitate adjusting the degradation and osteogenesis of different kinds of orthopedic implants made of the same magnesium-based material, and thus, accelerate the clinical popularization and application.

This study presents a comparative analysis of the influence of Ce-Gd and Gd-Y additions on the microstructural evolution, mechanical properties, and electrochemical behavior of extruded Mg-3Zn-Mn-Ca alloy rods. Despite the frequent incorporation of Gd, Y, and Ce as alloying elements in magnesium alloys, the systematic examination of their combined effects on Mg-Zn alloys has been limited. Our findings reveal that both Gd-Ce and Gd-Y additions significantly enhance the mechanical properties of Mg-3Zn-Mn-Ca alloy, although through differing mechanisms.

Implant-related osteomyelitis is a formidable hurdle in the clinical setting and is characterized by inflammation, infection, and consequential bone destruction. Therefore, effective reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging, bacterial killing, and subsequent bone tissue repair are urgently needed for the treatment of difficult-to-heal osteomyelitis. Herein, we utilized the eddy-thermal effect of magnesium (Mg) implants under an alternating magnetic field (AMF) for the controlled release of H gas and ions (OH and Mg) for the treatment of osteomyelitis.

The nanoelectrosprayer is a key device in the hyphenation of nanoLC-ESI-MS, and its development plays a crucial role in pushing forward the mining depth of biological discovery and industrialization of omics science. In this work, a new type of nanoelectrospray emitter, a rod sprayer, was developed based on microfluidic manufacture. Due to its porous silica structure, the rod sprayer in effect worked as a multinozzle sprayer, which is composed of a bunch of micrometer sized spray channels.

Camels play an important role in the pastoral mode of life by fulfilling basic demands of livelihood. Various pathologies, such as tuberculosis, hemorrhoids, ascites, increased size of the abdomen, gas colic, anemia, and abdominal tumors, were treated with animal urine, including camels, horses, donkeys, sheep, goats, elephants, and buffalo. Thirty different compounds were analyzed in camel urine by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry.
