Published: February 2024

International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classifies nickel compounds as Class Ⅰ carcinogens. International Labour Organization (ILO) also lists nickel compounds as carcinogenic factors of occupational cancer. At present, China is revising the Classification and Catalogue of Occupational Diseases, and cancer caused by nickel compounds may also be included in the statutory occupational diseases. The Diagnostic and Exposure Standards for Occupational Diseases published by ILO in 2022 discussed the pathogenic characteristics, occupational exposure, main health effects, diagnostic criteria and key preventive measures of nickel compounds in detail. This article mainly introduces its contents, in order to provid a basis for the formulation of relevant standards in China.

In China, a significant amount of coal fly ash is stored or used for landfill reclamation. The contaminants in coal fly ash (CFA) leachate can cause regional soil and groundwater contamination during long-term storage. This paper focuses on a coal gangue comprehensive utilisation power plant in Fenyang City, Shanxi Province, China, where the leaching characteristics of CFA were investigated by leaching tests.

Synthesis and characterization of heterotrimetallic Mg-Ni-Mg complexes with amidinato ligands.

Treatment of amidinato-based magnesium ethyl compounds LMgEt [L = PrPNC(Bu)NAr; Ar = 2,6-PrCH (La) or 2,6-(PhCH)-4-Pr-(CH) (Lb)] with Ni(COD) (COD: 1,5-cyclooctadiene) afforded heterotrimetallic Mg-Ni-Mg complexes [(LMg)Ni(CH)] through β-H elimination. These complexes exhibit approximately linear Mg-Ni-Mg linkage with the central nickel arranged in a planar configuration; the Ni(CH) unit can be considered as nickela-bis-cyclopropane. Reaction of [(LMg)Ni(CH)] with tetrahydrofuran (THF) gave a coordination product [(LMg·THF)Ni(CH)], in which the central structure remained intact and THF coordinated to two magnesium atoms respectively.

Exposure to mid-energy radiation poses significant health risks, necessitating the development of effective shielding materials. Traditional lead-based shields, while effective, have significant drawbacks including toxicity and environmental concerns. This study investigates the potential of lead-free epoxy resin nanocomposites, incorporating bismuth oxide, nickel oxide, and cerium oxide, for mid-energy radiation protection.

Photocatalytic degradation of crystal violet using yttrium and copper co-doped nickel aluminate.

Environ Sci Pollut Res Int

January 2025

School of Advanced Sciences, Department of Chemistry, Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore, 632014, Tamil Nadu, India.

Spinels are known for their enhanced photocatalytic activity which demonstrates as one of the promising solutions for the conversion of harmful organic dyes into simpler, less harmful molecules like CO and HO. In this study, spinel nickel aluminate, copper-doped nickel aluminate, and yttrium, copper co-doped nickel aluminate were synthesized using the sol-gel process with citric acid as a capping agent. The synthesized compounds were characterized by various techniques, including XRD, UV-DRS, XPS, and SEM-EDAX, and tested for their photocatalytic activity against the crystal violet dye under UV light.

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Drug Research, Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences555 Zu Chong Zhi Road, Shanghai 201203, P. R. China.

A chemical method for the preparation of nonprotected tryptophan via nickel(II) complexes under simple operating conditions was established. The carefully designed nickel(II) glycinates are inexpensive and can be quantitatively recovered releasing the target tryptophans in high yield. The method has a wide range of synthesis generality, allowing the preparation of various substituted tryptophans.
